Award-winning chef Michael Schlow, who owns and operates the popular TICO restaurant on DC’s 14th Street corridor, opened his second DC area restaurant in 2015: The Riggsby, in the Carlyle Hotel at 1731 New Hampshire Avenue, NW in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. Named for the street that intersects the restaurant, Riggs Place, the restaurant’s name also pays homage to the former Riggs Bank. The in

timate yet refined space was designed by Brian Miller of Edit Lab at Streetsense, and will feature an open kitchen, wood tables, leather booths, brass finishes and whimsical décor, that includes a custom
designed wallpaper incorporating original artwork from Schlow’s wife, mixed media artist,

The eclectic bar and lounge area will seat 40 guests, while the dining room seats 75 and also has a cozy private dining space for ten. The Riggsby will have a fun yet sophisticated ambience, serving American dishes with European influences. The inviting bar will have an emphasis on classic, hand crafted cocktails, bar snacks, and an extensive wine by the glass program. Schlow, considered one of the leading culinary professionals in the United States, has tapped Chef Philippe Reininger, an acolyte of Jean-Georges Vongerichten who was most recently executive chef at J&G Steakhouse in Washington DC, to oversee the kitchen; and Daniel Lobsenz, who most recently oversaw front of house operations and managed the wine programs for both Roofer’s Union and BLT Steak, will be The Riggsby General Manager. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Final food and beverage menus, along with operating hours, reservations, and other information will be made available closer to opening.

Dear Schlow Restaurant Group Guests:

We wanted to take a moment and reach out to you, our friends and loyal guests, to inform you about the increased precautions that we have taken across all of our restaurants to ensure your well-being and safety, as well as our staffs, as we continue to follow the developments surrounding COVID-19.

At all of our restaurants (The Riggsby, Alta Strada, Tico, Casolare, Prima, Nama, Cavatina, Inn of the Anasazi), we have always trained for and implemented the strongest health, sanitation, and safety standards as part of our core operation and culture. While we do this on a daily basis, the recent developments have us tripling our efforts so that our teams and our guests can rely on our restaurants to provide a safe, healthy environment.

We’re following the CDC guidelines in all areas that we operate and recognize that this time requires even more heightened awareness and our very best practices.

Everyone at SRG is taking this situation very seriously and our approach is safety first.

It's times like this that can test the best in all of us; it's our hope that while we all need to be diligent about taking precautions, that we can still be supportive of everyone in our communities and of our local businesses, restaurants included.

Our restaurants are neighborhood places and will remain open. As we continue to navigate this uncertain time, let's be aware, let’s be safe, and let's stay supportive.

We’re doing everything we can to provide a safe environment for you to come and enjoy yourself, including:
▪️ Additional steps of sanitation at each contact point, particularly as tables are set and reset, doors, bathrooms, silverware handling, and constant sanitizing of the kitchen.
▪️ Daily guidance, additional training, and follow up from the Executive Team.
▪️ Full implementation of the evolving information from the Department of Health and CDC—responding and adapting as protocol changes—ensuring that our commitment is rooted in creating a safe and enjoyable dining experience.
▪️ Encouraging non-essential workers to work from home.

We know this current situation is a dramatic departure from our normal daily lives and we will continue to evolve and be sensitive to your every need or concern; as always, we very much look forward to hosting you for brunch, lunch, and dinner and taking exceptional care of you in our restaurants.

If you have any suggestions or if there is anything that you feel we can do to make you feel more comfortable, just reach out to a restaurant manager or contact [email protected].

And in case you are interested in having our delicious food in the comfort of your own home, we have made all of our menus, whenever possible, available on many of the delivery channels (DoorDash, GrubHub, Caviar, Uber Eats, and Postmates).

On a final note, we want to recognize and thank our incredible team of restaurant professionals who, regardless of what's happening outside the restaurant, continue to demonstrate genuine hospitality and care for all of our guests inside the restaurant.

We’re incredibly grateful...

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you really soon.
