Here’s a quick snapshot of just a few of the many vessel recoveries our Sea Tow Central New Jersey crews have completed over the past 2 days.

The recent storm and coastal flooding took a toll on boats throughout our area—vessels breaking free, washing ashore, becoming stranded, and sustaining damage.

If your vessel suffered storm damage or ended up somewhere it shouldn’t be, we’re here to help. Our crews have the equipment and experience to safely recover your vessel and help prevent further damage.

Today, our Sea Tow Central New Jersey crew—Capt. Walt, Deckhand Bill, and Joe—utilized Sea Tow 41 to respond to Long Beach Township for a vessel that had broken free from its lift.

The vessel had drifted and become pinned against the windward side of a neighboring boat lift, causing damage to the lift and another vessel.

Thanks to the quick actions and teamwork of our crew, they were able to safely extricate the adrift vessel and help minimize additional damage to the neighboring lift and boat.

Another example of why having experienced crews ready to respond makes a difference when conditions turn challenging.

Stay tuned for more photos from today’s numerous operations.

⚠️ GOOD MORNING — COASTAL FLOODING SAFETY UPDATE ⚠️

Sea Tow Central New Jersey crews will be out this morning assessing conditions throughout the area.

Please use extreme caution around roads near or leading to marinas, boat ramps, and waterfront areas. Many of these roads may be flooded with SALT WATER, and conditions can be deceiving. Water may be deeper than it appears, and some areas may have moving water.

🚫 TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!
Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Salt water can also cause significant damage to your vehicle.

We will attempt to provide photos and condition updates throughout the day as our crews assess the area.

If you need assistance, Sea Tow Central New Jersey is standing by.

⚓ VESSEL BREAKS FREE — RECOVERED 8.5 MILES SOUTH

Yesterday, Sea Tow Central New Jersey was contacted regarding a vessel that had washed onto the beach and was being pushed against the bulkhead along Barnegat Beach Drive in Waretown.

Our crew responded and was able to ascertain the owner’s information. We learned that the vessel had been secured to a mooring in Seaside Heights and, at some point, broke free and drifted approximately 8.5 miles south before coming ashore in Waretown.

With the vessel being pushed against the beach and bulkhead, time was critical. Continued pounding could have resulted in catastrophic damage and potentially caused the vessel to sink.

Sea Tow Central New Jersey deployed our RHIB, and a towline was floated from the RHIB to our land-based crew. The land crew made the connection, allowing the vessel to be safely pulled off the beach and away from the bulkhead.

The vessel was successfully recovered before sustaining catastrophic damage and was then towed to Key Harbor Marina.

This incident is another reminder of just how quickly strong winds, rough conditions, and elevated water levels can create problems—even for vessels that are normally secured.

Check your boats. Check your moorings. Check your dock lines, batteries, and bilge pumps.

⚠️ MARINE FORECAST & WARNING — BARNEGAT AREA ⚠️

The information remains about the same. A stubborn high-pressure system remains in place to our north, keeping this weather pattern locked in. There has been very little change to the forecast, and our warnings remain the same.

🌬️ A GALE WARNING remains in effect, and the conditions are already evident on local weather stations.

🌧️ There is still the potential for rain during this event. Combined with our lunar high tides and persistent onshore winds, there is the potential for moderate coastal flooding in vulnerable areas.

⚓ If you're thinking about checking your boat, now is the time.

Take a few minutes to:
• Check and add dock lines where needed
• Make sure lines are properly positioned for changing water levels
• Check batteries and charging systems
• Verify your bilge pumps and float switches are working
• Secure loose equipment, canvas and gear
• Double-check Bimini tops and enclosures

We have already received reports of boats losing Bimini tops and enclosures in the wind.

Don't wait until conditions deteriorate further. A few minutes spent securing your boat now can prevent significant damage later.

Use caution around the water and stay aware of changing conditions.

🚨 Marine Weather and Flooding Alert looking at a prolonged stretch of northeast winds building seas and rain through the week. That onshore flow can trap water in the back bays and raise tidal flooding risk as the week goes on. Then, the full harvest moon on Saturday brings higher astronomical tides, which could add to the issue. It’s a good time to check lines, pumps, batteries, secure anything that could float, and keep a close eye on forecasts and water levels. Barnegat Inlet will get increasingly hazardous as seas build. So please plan ahead and stay safe. Seatow is standing by 609-660-7777.

09/02/2026

As the holiday weekend approaches we need to reflect the tragic year it has been on the New Jersey waterways. So when boating this weekend follow some of these key safety points:

1. If you are operating a vessel, DO NOT CONSUME ALCOHOL. Alcohol can affect judgment, reaction time, balance, and coordination. Conditions on the water, including sun, heat, wind, engine noise, vibration, and the constant movement of the vessel, can amplify the effects. Boating Under the Influence (BUI) is the leading cause of fatal boating accidents, yet it is 100% preventable. Designate a sober skipper for more info go to Sea Tow Foundation's Sober Skipper.

2. Prepare your boat before leaving the dock, Always check your batteries, fuel supply, bilge pumps, navigation lights, and VHF radio. Also make sure required safety equipment, including, first aid kits, properly fitting life jackets, fire extinguishers, and visual distress signals are in good condition and easy to access.

3. Slow down and pay attention- At higher speeds, a boat can cover considerable distance in only a few seconds, leaving less time to react to another vessel or an unexpected hazard.

4. Life Jackets save lives, they only work when they are worn.

5. Check the weather, New Jersey weather changes quickly, there are numerous phone applications available. For example, the Sea Tow App provides access to marine weather forecasts, live radar, wind conditions and severe weather alerts to help boaters stay informed before and during their time on the water.

These 5 points can make the difference with your boating experience. A successful day on Barnegat Bay is one that ends with everyone returning safely to shore.

Have fun. Be responsible. Look out for one another.

Enjoy the holiday weekend—and most importantly, get home safely.
