With great sadness, we share news of the passing of our friend and longtime server, Kristen Murphy, who passed away on Friday, February 21. Kristen was dedicated, resilient, creative, funny, and kind. She would finish her shift in the Ware High cafeteria and then work evenings with us. We employed not only Kristen, but also her sons. We worked hard together and we had fun together. She loved celebrating holidays and had t-shirts and light-up necklaces for every occasion. Kristen had a bright smile for everyone, and pulled you in tight when she hugged you. We were all better people for having known her.

After the death of her son Ethan, Kristen became active with the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention, whose mission is to save lives and support those affected by su***de. At the time of her death, Kristen was planning the second annual Out of Darkness Ware Campus Walk, which will be held on Saturday, May 3, in Grenville Park. If you wish to honor Kristen’s memory, please donate to this year’s walk. The link to the site can be found in the comments. We have news to share! It’s official, we sold our business and building at 197 West Street today. We thank you all for keeping us in business for 45 years!!! We spent 28 years at 186 West St. (now Dr. Safi and Dr.Hakim’s offices) and 17 years at 197. We appreciated hearing from so many of you after we closed. We thank you for your kind words, and for sharing your memories of our business with us. We especially thank all of our family members and staff who worked with us through the years. We couldn’t have stayed in business without you! We thank Nick’s sister, Irene Mariettos of B.Kaye Realty, for acting as our real estate agent and brokering our sale. We are acknowledge Nick’s late father, George, for founding and laying the foundation for this business, and we are grateful for his mother, Maria, who worked so tirelessly to keep the business going for so many years.

We almost met our end in 2004 when Cumberland Farms ended our lease at 186 West Street. We closed the restaurant on July 31, 2004, and moved the contents of the restaurant to storage. We were fortunate to then purchase the building at 197 West Street, the former Hapco Parts store. The restaurant was closed for 10 months while the bare concrete block building was transformed in to the restaurant it is today. We did much of the finish work ourselves, painting every wall and staining all of the wood. We reopened the restaurant at our current location on June 17, 2005. The building has truly felt like our home for the past 17 years.

While our sale might come as a surprise to some, we’ve contemplated this decision for some time. We spoke with our first potential buyer in 2018, and several more since then. The decision to sell was not an easy one, and many factors influenced our decision. We’ve both done this work long enough to know that this was the right time to sell. This restaurant has been a part of Nick’s life since he was 11 years old, and I’ve worked alongside Nick in the restaurant for over 30 years. Please know that Nick’s mom, Maria, is happily retired and completely supported our decision to sell.

So what is next for us? In time, Nick will find a new job, but he will most likely not continue on in food service. I’ll keep working at the full-time job that I’ve held for many years. You will see us around, we are not going anywhere, and we will continue to live in Ware. While we ultimately wanted to sell, this is a huge transition for us, and we are trying to adjust to life without the restaurant.

We wish our buyer and any of his future tenants much success at 197 West Street!

We are searching for staff to make pizzas and grinders. Restaurant experience is preferred but not necessary. The ideal candidate is reliable, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. In addition to making pizzas and grinders, duties include food prep, keeping your station clean and stocked, washing dishes, answering the phone, and other duties as assigned. Candidates must be self-motivated, and be able to make orders quickly, but accurately and consistently. Must be at least 16 years or older to apply.

We are hiring a dishwasher for evening shifts. Duties include washing dishes, pots/pans, utensils, and cleanup at the end of the shift (sweeping and mopping). Additional tasks include busing tables as needed when we resume dine in service, and other duties as assigned. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and be 16 years or older. Candidates must be self-motivated, and able to discern what needs to be cleaned, stocked, and filled, during their shift. Time management skills are essential for this position.
