Greetings.. hope all are well. As with the seasons life sometimes holds some bad weather changes.. May yours be infrequent and end with bright skies and only minor if no damage.. We have gotten some emails requesting items for the holidays as well as alerting us to issues with the online store (shipping error). UPS upgraded to tighter security and we have not upgraded the stores software. The cost and time to do so didn't seem doable since the building is all but sold. We're working on upgrading it now and looking at providing some items for one more Christmas. Its too late to bake an ship for Thanksgiving.. We checked and not surprisingly its too late for us to get any Nokkelost for this year.. I did manage to get some Fiskeboller though.. Hopefully I can be in a position to bake Pulla, Kringle, Freya, Kransekake and Troll Sticks but currently, as with the weather, its day to day seeing what's in store.. Normally in about 3 weeks from now we would be holding our annual festival.. Sadly we are not due to the property we hold it on being up for sale.. Even sadder is that a year later and it still isn't sold. We possibly could of had it but we did not feel comfortable having the possibility of it being cancelled last minute due to new owners or current landlord putting a shield in our way.. We have a year to plan for and try to find a new location for it though it probably will not be in NJ.. Thank you to all for past attendance and/or being a vendor or volunteer.

Prepping to do the smelt today.. plan is to start fire to preheat furnace around 11, then start adding charcoal 12:30 ish, then start adding alternating layers of ore and charcoal around 1? Not sure how long will take but guess is by 6 should be close to seeing if we have a bloom then hammering it. If would like to help or just watch that feel free to join us at the Nordic House.. Most of day will just be re-stoking furnace and taking temp notes.. using digital kiln thermometer. Oh and taking video/photos of all for educational video.

Sadly we did not attend Scanfest this year. Due to the move we have been driving 2hrs one way almost every weekend so on a day off driving an hour when we were not participating in it was out.. We did honor our heritage though by spending the day firing the clay cob furnace for about 5 hours.. After cooling down overnight we found the inside walls of it had fired nicely. No large cracks seen and it was holding heat nicely according to the IR gun we used to measure outside wall temps during the day.. Ready to cook the iron ore.. I didn’t like the breeze this morning so hopefully will get that done tomorrow.

Looks like wet next 2 days but then nice for weekend.. Plan is to fire raw clay on Sat for a smelt on Sunday.. While watching burn in furnace we will be preparing for Smelt by pre-weighing out of iron ore and coal. This will allow just adding as needed on Sunday and monitoring temps (recording).. Volunteers / helpers are welcome.

Been quite last few months as we continue to move out of the home for the Nordic House last 15 years. No current plans at opening elsewhere nor will we be at Scanfest it seems as that is just over a month away.

We are hoping/planning to finally use the furnace we built for last years Winternights Festival to smelt iron ore into an ingot. Plan is to do that this weekend.. Two days of rain prior is perfect as long as furnace doesn't absorb too much moisture..
