We just opened a BBQ Joint here in Vermillion at 24 East Cherry Street. We are only open every Thurs 4-7pm during Spring, Summer and Fall. Heck's BBQ has a long history in Vermillion with traditions going back over 70 years. The sauce recipe was created by Heck Harnois back in the 30's and still remains a well kept secret. We honor Heck and the traditions established by the Norway rib eaters by c

ooking our ribs and other BBQ items over corncobs. This is something that is unique to South Dakota. To our knowledge, Heck's is the only licensed BBQ vendor in the US that uses cobs as a preferred fuel source. Heck's has a full catering menu for those interested in hosting events in SE South Dakota.

We passed our health inspection today with flying colors and with any luck Heck's Rib Shack should be open next week. It took a lot of work from a lot of good people to get us where we are today.
I can't help but think how much dad and grandpa would have enjoyed this. We actually opened our business 14 years ago as of last week. We set up our vending trailer right outside the front door of Jones Foods. (Ace Hardware). A week later dad passed away. The picture you see here was taken shortly before his passing.
Today is the anniversary of dad's last day. I can only believe that he and grandpa Heck have been looking out for us.
I am so lucky to have grown up with such wonderful role models.

We are getting closer to our opening. We just finished staining the butcher block style table tops, wall panels and trim peices for the new Rib Shack. We hope to have the painting done and flooring in by early next week.
Im getting hungry too guys.

We are getting closer!
We are looking forward to the day we open the doors on the new Rib Shack. We will be moving three doors west of our current location. We will feature a drive-thru window and some limited inside seating. Pretty cool!
It will be several weeks yet but we are getting there.
