Hello friends,
Four and a half years ago, a worldwide pandemic forced movie theaters like the Kiggins to begin an open-ended intermission. Though we kept our popper going to offer “popcorn to go” (thank you all for your support and cravings!) and we received several grants to help keep afloat, the uncertainty of when (or even if) we would show films again was a growing concern.
The need for diversity was imminent. So we bought a pizza restaurant.
Pizza had proven itself covid proof, and for a time it was. Thinking ahead, we also knew that once the Kiggins was able to finally reopen we needed a new source for in-house pizza, since our prior provider had recently closed.
Like all good adventure stories, owning and operating a restaurant was filled with peril and intrigue, heroes and villains. And sometimes the narrative evolves.
Bessolo Pizzeria as restaurant will be…changing. The dine in spot that many have come to know and love these past three years will be closing at the end of this month.
But like any great action hero (or supervillain) Bessolo Pizzeria is not dead! We think Vancouver’s best pizza must survive for the sequel! Our plan is to continue offering pizza and select menu items for your movie watching pleasure and for to-go and delivery orders. The details are all still being finalized, but stay tuned as the story continues to unfold.
It’s not the final act, but maintaining the restaurant in its current form threatened the longevity of our main hero, the Kiggins Theatre. Thank you Clark County for again voting us the best theatre for a second year in a row, and thank you Downtown Vancouver and beyond for the last three years of business at Bessolo Pizzeria.
Lastly, I like to personally thank the dedicated staff of Bessolo that went the distance, and the staff of the Kiggins that hung on thru the crazy ride.
