Here are some ways you can help us reduce cost and help you reduce waste!
*Bring us your excess bags: paper, plastic or cloth - we will use them!
*Any Ice Packs, insulated boxes & packaging - we will use them & they are very helpful , especially in the summertime.
*Save your egg cartons and return them to us - we will get them to small chicken farmers to use.
*Return plastic clamshells or containers that are in good condition - we will use them or share them with outher farmers.
I'm not 100% sure "zero waste" is an actual possiblity because all industries have some type of packaging - even food from our hyper-local farms to your tables will need to be packaged, transported, or stored at some point in it's life.
With that said, I feel like I am a Master at reusing or repurposing all materials I come into contact with. Which in turn makes my eco footprint quite light.
>I send out our wholesale & residential deliveries in packaging from other farms. Using all materials for as long as possible without taking away from the integrity of the product I am selling.
>This includes: large plastic bags to keep moisture in while veggies are being stored, cardboard boxes, and baggies, rubberbands & twist ties from unsued produce.
>All printed invoices, receipts, and recipes are printed on paper that is salvaged form a local print shop - it is all waste for them!
>For keeping product cold I use refrigerators that would have been in the landfill.
>My business is run out of my home to cut down on high overhead cost and to keep it simple.
>My workspace is outdoors and has been built with all repurposed materials - **still looking for coruggated metal for a nice roof**. (When it rains everything gets wet)
>I have multiple non profit businesses that I donate leftover food to.
>I recently started selling extra produce on Monday of each week through an app called "Too Good to Go" (https://www.toogoodtogo.com/en-us) . They connect local businesses that have perishable foods with a customer base that wants to reduce the amount of food being thrown away. **If you are another business that wants to join, please tell them I referred you, there is a small kickback.**
>I always send leftover food to freinds & neighbors with chickens & goats
>And, of course, I compost the remaining food waste to replenish the earth.
