This bread is the best type of nostalgia for me. I grew up eating it at my grandmother’s table, often dipping it in my dad’s coffee or with cinnamon, sugar and butter. When we opened Monarch, we tried so many bread recipes... only to be disappointed. I hadn’t yet tried Mama Combs’ because I wasn’t sure if it was just the memory of it that was so good. Once we tried it, we never looked back. This challah bread recipe has been our toast bread from day one. It’s reliable, classic, subtly sweet, stands on its own or piled high with avocado. It’s come full circle for us - it’s what my 4 year old son asks for when we stop by Monarch and that couldn’t make me happier. Now, we’re sharing it on our website (along with other fan favorites - olive oil orange muffins, chocolate chip zucchini banana muffins, paleo bars and ham and cheddar scones).

trying every drink on on our summer menu, camping out at your table of choice at monarch, no traffic, slower days, getting to know your barista, the list goes on and we’re glad you’re here.

pictured: golden coast (available hot or iced) - we toast coconut flakes with coconut oil and then mix with almond butter, vanilla bean and coconut sugar to create a syrup so good you could enjoy it on its own 😝.

Our See You Later Menu is our way of saying farewell to those who are graduating. It’s a chance for our team members to come up with a drink of their own or highlight a favorite pastry or drink they’ve loved throughout their time with us.

This year’s menu is solid all the way around and so reflective of each individual.

We are honored and grateful that these wonderful people and many others have chosen to spend their days serving at our shop. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for them next.

we’ll say it a million times - all of this we’re getting to do here - coffee, food, space - it’s meant to be shared.

we’re all better off when we break bread together at a table or intentionally ask a friend to coffee. when we put the miles on our car to visit our people and take time to enjoy the spaces they inhabit.

please come in and add another stain to our coffee table. the wear on our hand-poured countertop and the patina on our leather sofa tell our story - almost a decade in the making - that we’re a well-worn place of familiarity and belonging. everything here is meant to be shared and enjoyed and everyone is meant to be treasured - from our legacy of baristas and bakers to the gems of people we get to call our customers.

designing this sweatshirt was such a dream 💭 and we always love working with to bring ideas to life.

it can be hard to capture or define monarch, but “king coffee” always has - since day one. it means nothing and everything all at once.

as we entered into this new era of symbols (🦁) and colors and objects, we wanted to preserve the words/phrases/rituals we always come back to.

this sweatshirt wears like an old favorite, worn-in and subtle. the puff print was a non-negotiable and helped us find a way to make it happen.
