It’s always an exciting day when we receive new crop coffees from Nicaragua. Special thanks for all the hard work to Sergio A. Gutierrez, Juan Ramón Díaz, Luis Miranda/Specialty Coffee, and Alexander Rivera. As well as all the other people who contributed to the herculean effort of getting coffee planted, cultivated, harvested, processed, sorted, packaged, exported, imported, and moved. It’s a minor miracle we get to enjoy such great coffees here in the US.

The very last of our current lot of Pastora Black Honey is roasted and on the shelf (and on pourover today). For all who are fans of this unique Costa Rican coffee, come get some before it’s sold out (also available online). Thinking of all the fun times with Minor and his family at La Pastora. Some really great people and excellent coffee producers. Thank you!

Our friend came to town last week from his post as Artist in Residence at . He was here to drop off the latest batch of Rookery Cups, with their voluptuous curves and rustic charm. This time around we got three different glazes: black, powder blue, and that goldenrod color that’s honey and earth and vegetable all wrapped up in one interesting conglomerate. Truth be told, every morning I sit on my Chesterfield sofa and read books, and drink coffee from a Casebeer cup. I’m a big fan. It’s more than just a mug, it’s an experience, a work of art. The people have spoken. After a month of voting with your cookie allowances, we have a clear winner. As promised, one of our cookies must go. There just ain’t enough room in this pastry case for the both of ‘em. The polls closed last night and after tallying up every single cookie bought in-house, on the app, and on our website… the MONSTER COOKIE stays. I know it seems unAmerican to eliminate the chocolate chip cookie, but there’s really nothing to be done. (Well, short of a protest - which could lead to a stay of ex*****on.) By my count, we have enough dough left to make 32 chocolate chip cookies. We’ll be doling these out eight at a time over the next four days. Get them while they last. Thanks for participating in the poll. We had a lot of fun. (Thinking about making t-shirts that say MONSTER. Thoughts?)

Things have gotten controversial in the cookie contest. We’ve seen pollsters rise from polite patrons to passionate partisans. Some customers are on the verge of becoming outright cookie monsters. Tensions soar such that I’ve some fear that a food fight could break out any moment. Nonetheless, this contentious cookie competition continues. With just over 3 weeks to go before one of these cookies is done-zo, here are the latest numbers.

There just ain’t room in this here pastry case for the both of them. We’ve been baking up your two favorite cookies for over a decade, and I know you’ve grown to love and expect their sweet goodness, appropriately paired with the week’s featured single-origin americano. But one of these cookies must go. From today until Labor Day, we’ll be tracking sales of each: chocolate chip vs monster cookie. Whichever sells the most, stays. You don’t have to be present to vote. Go online and cast your support for one or the other. Every vote counts (no hanging chips... er chads in this poll).
