Old Hickory House

Old Hickory House Country-style American fare, barbecued meats & more served in a down-home diner with a vintage vibe. We plan to be serving our customers for another 60 years.

The family run Old Hickory House restaurants have been an Atlanta institution for more than 60 years with 4 family members operating their stores in Atlanta before closing and retiring. The old Forrest Park location was the one who had a scene in the movie “Smokey & The Bandit” filmed in 1977. This scene at the Old Hickory House had Jackie Gleason and Burt Reynolds in it. Gleason ordered a Diablo

sandwich which we now serve at our location in Tucker, Georgia. Elvis Presley was another celebrity among other’s who frequented the Old Hickory House’s in the Atlanta area. The Tucker location that opened in 1974 is the only Old Hickory House standing. Come join us and “Put Some South In Your Mouth!”

At the Old Hickory House in Tucker, Georgia you’ll find some of the tastiest brunswick stew and barbecue you’ll come across anywhere in the Peach State! This longtime Tucker favorite is the kind of place that keeps things simple, hearty, and full of flavor, with hickory-smoked barbecue that tastes like it came straight from an old Southern smokehouse. George Jackson first began serving barbecue on Piedmont Road in Atlanta back in 1955, and the recipes have been passed down through the family over the years, which helps explain why this place still feels so rooted in tradition.

The chopped pork, ribs, and chicken are cooked low and slow over real hickory, giving each plate that deep smoky taste folks come here for. Their Brunswick stew is one of the biggest reasons people make the trip, with a rich, old-fashioned flavor that pairs perfectly with a barbecue plate. Breakfast is also a big deal here, with hot biscuits, big pancakes, eggs, and country ham coming off the griddle in the morning. Save room if you can, because their in-house banana pudding and fruit cobblers are customer favorites too. It’s not a fancy place, and that’s part of what makes it special. Big portions, friendly service, and real-deal barbecue have kept people coming back to Old Hickory House for generations.
