Oh man guys. This is a tale about the Zombie Farm of Haiti. A true story about zombies, pufferfish poison, and abandoned coffee farms. Long before Jamaican Blue Coffee there was Haitian Blue Mountain coffee but years of economic crashes led to coffee farms being abandoned and the coffee trees used for firewood. The most unique and rare coffee cherries being used for warmth. Until Cafe Kreyol enters the scene and starts investing into the coffee farms and farmers of Haiti and getting these farmers the credit they deserve and have their coffee tasted around the world. This isn’t a bandaid this is a project that is trying to secure these farmers livelihood. We can get behind that. The farm and town is named the Zombie Desert because of a man named Clairvius Narcisse a man who was BURIED alive and was dug up by a plantation owner. He was then forced into slavery and poisoned with pufferfish poison! You can’t make this stuff up. When the plantation owner died Clairvius became clear headed and had the opportunity to tell his story in his own words. The town was named after Clairvius, the town zombie who was buried alive and lived again! Now we for the very first time ever have the chance to support an amazing project and try Haitian Blue Mountain coffee! Link below

Project: Haitian Blue Zombie

So introducing our first project. The Haitian Blue Zombie Farm. Every now and then we get lucky enough to stumble across a great coffee with an even better story. This story is filled with zombies, pufferfish poison, and abandoned coffee farms. On this crisp October morning we are so excited to tell you guys about this one. A Haitian Blue Mountain coffee called the Savane zombie, meaning the Zombie Desert. Named after a town by the same name.

Haitian Blue is what made Haiti famous for coffee, it was the Jamaican Blue coffee of the world before Jamaica Blue came on the scene. That is how good this coffee is. But after the Haitian economy crashed multiple times, most of the farms were left abandoned, absolutely abandoned. Some of the most rare and unique coffee trees in the entire world became actual firewood. BUT in the last 5 to 10 years there has been a rebirth of coffee in Haiti, and Cafe Kreyol is just one of the names in that effort that is making it possible.

Cafe Kreyol is a co-op focused on investing in hard-working individuals with great work ethic that, for one reason or another, have really been put down with employment and troubled times. This team at Cafe Kreyol has helped them recover and build a business while also helping build strong coffee communities around the world. This is a true project coffee, where Cafe Kreyol themselves set the price of the beans. They aren't wavering on this because they are making sure these farms and these farmers are here for the long haul.

Guys, that’s just a background, there is so much about this farm I want to tell yall all about. I mean not to mention this is a Catimore Bean, which is a hybrid of the Caturra Arabica variety & the Timor Robusta cherry. So our first Catimore to pass through this shop!

And when we say Zombie... here is a small dive in to why this coffee farm is called the Zombie Farm of Haiti. A fella named by the name of Clairvius Narcisse was BURIED ALIVE and was dug up by a plantation owner and forced Clairvius into slavery and kept him drugged and poisoned for years even with Pufferfish poison! Once the plantation owner died, the poison wore off and Clairvius unfolded his own story in his own words. And the town was later named the Zombie Desert because of Clairvius, the town Zombie who was buried alive and lived again.

So just in time for Halloween we will have the Haitian Blue Zombie Roast. A medium roast grown in the hills of Haiti. At 29.99 a bag this is one of the steepest priced bags of the entire year but we love knowing who we are supporting and what this looks like to support them. It is time to get Haiti Blue Mountain coffee seen and tasted. What an opportunity.

What a day.

Shwoooo what a day guys. What a day. In every good way I can describe in words. Cannot tell you how thankful we are for you guys helping and coming out and supporting us the way yall do. Last week started out real bumpy, we mean bumpy. On Monday I blew my back OUT and living in Struggleville to pick anything up I mean standing up straight was taking my breath away.... on the one week of the year it is time to lift straw bales, a million canopies and tables, move everything from the inside straight to the outside. I was like oh no no no, not the week lol not this week. Then ya got the perfect sunny and 75 Saturday forecast move to 100% chance of rain forecast. Alright Lord... alright. Then ya got bearings going out on roasters that are being used for Explorer's Club roast and so many bags for the cookoff. Alright Lord. Okay. If you were in here last week chances are you didn't hear about any of that, we are not much on complaining around here. For good reason too, when you see all the things people are doing just because they want to there's no room to complain. Only room to have a grateful heart. You guys brought generators, you brought canopies, you brought so many extension cords, we had people offering to drive from states away just to man a table or tent. I mean what a community. It isn't even a "Townsend" community we are talking about it is THIS community that yall have created. The Little River Coffee Co community that is a strong one, yall mean business. So I am so thankful for all the people that came out Thursday, all day Friday, all day Saturday and helped set up and take down. THANK YOU guys. Thank you. The day was perfect. Perfect. The weather lifted and it became a sunny afternoon with a rainbow. No one even mentioned or complained about the patches of rain. We had our biggest turn out yet on a day that had a 100 percent chance of wind, storms, and downpours. That is community. The day was the most successful one we have ever had. I felt like it was the smoothest by far. Which is so ironic because the week leading up to it felt like an absolute perfect storm. Hurricanes, my back, roaster issues. Perfect storm. Going to bed hearing about 70 mph wind gust with 20 peoples canopies that are not mine outside along with a basket arch that took a month to make. Ahhh. Perfect Storm. But. Mark Walhberg lived in this perfect storm and it was the smoothest sea we have ever seen in October. Only He can do that.

What in the world do I even say about yesterday. Shwooo. Best turnout yet. Best chili cookoff yet. Because these people right here. All of yall that came out in your boots and smiles on. It drizzled for so little then it was a perfect chilly chili cookoff day. Of course it was, because His hand was on every detail there was. From changing a 100 percent chance of rain to a zero percent chance of rain from 11-2…. You can’t make that stuff up. He is so good. And yall are so good. To the ones that drove from afar THANK you. To the ones I love dearly that help set up 1,000,000 canopies and take them down year after year without saying a word, thank you. To all the ones that brought ice and coolers and tables, thank you. To the girls who came early in the morning with rockstar lemonades and lattes, thank you. Yall are the best and the only reason this day is the best.

If ya know me you know I don’t sit down and drink coffee in a seat unless I need to. Needed to take a second this morning. Got here early to roast more for tomorrow and I feel like the lord said nah, not today. One roaster ran out of propane. The other was yelling very angrily for a new bearing. Not today. Went to listen to music, jbl died. Alright. Ima sit down with my cup and just be still a second. Tomorrow is the chili cookoff and due to not one, or two, but three hurricanes it MAY rain. I’ve seen Jesus do far bigger miracles than move a rain storm so I am praying these mountains protect us from the wind and rain. I tell my kids ALL. THE. TIME you don’t let rain affect what you’re doing outside, go do it. There is nothing wrong in getting dirty. Or wet. Or cold. Do it anyways. So that’s what we’re going to do, do it anyways. Wear muck boots, wear your rain jackets, we have had so many people bring canopy’s it’s insane so if you have a huge tent or canopy bring it by today if ya will. This is gonna be a great day tomorrow and the lord has already done SO much to make this day amazing He ain’t stopping now. So come out tomorrow in great spirits 11-2!

Is the chili cookoff still happening if it’s raining? YES, it is rain or shine and I believe it will not be raining. Truly. We all got rain boots and canopy’s so come on out! Music starts at 11! Little rain never hurt.
