79 days..79 chances. Then the red door slams shut for the season.

Final day: Sunday, October 25th we will serve our last customers, sell out, and then… P**F! We’re gone.

Not for a week.

Not for a month.

For 153 long, agonizing, stomach growling, Nunya Sauce craving days. 😱

You’ll be scrolling Facebook all winter while we post delicious food & milkshake pictures, and before you know it you’ll be licking your device screen wondering why it doesn’t taste like a Cluckin Wrap 🐓🤦‍♀️😂💕

You’ll convince yourself you can wait until spring.

You can’t.

You’ll dream about our Son of a Brisket with that finger staining blueberry barbecue sauce dripping down your chin.

You’ll start judging every biscuits and gravy you eat because none of them measure up.

You’ll have anxiety attacks every time you think about those perfectly seasoned Cow Chips 🥔😂

You’ll find yourself standing in front of the refrigerator praying a tub of Fat Kid Beans magically appears 🫘😂

You’ll hear someone say “breakfast” and your stomach will immediately go into Hangover Burrito hysteria 🤪😂

With all the road closures, even the cows are confused 🪧🐄😂

If you’ve been wondering whether you can still make the drive to Not Doug’s, the answer is YES!

Aeneas Valley Road is open, we’re open, and we’ve been fortunate to have many beautiful, clear days. Like much of the region, we do get occasional smoke throughout the days but you can still make the drive up the valley.

One of our customers said it better than we could:

“We were just up there for a tasty milkshake. The air was clear and it was a beautiful drive up the valley. Don’t let the fires scare you off. Not Doug’s is safe and a great place to eat or just get a cool drink 😎!”

WOW, JUST WOW!!!! YOU GUYS HAVE A PICKLE PROBLEM.

There have to be groups for this. Meetings. Sponsors. Some kind of twelve-step program for people buying Not Doug’s Dills at the rate you people are buying them.

But until you’re ready to admit you have a problem, we’re going to keep enabling you.

We sliced. We packed. We brined. We stocked. Then you bought them all, so we did it again.

Not Doug’s Dills are fully stocked and officially restocked. Come get all the pickles you want.

No judgment here. We’re clearly part of the problem.

It’s the little things in life… 😂

Most people don’t realize the level of excitement a restaurant can experience over… forks.

We always order our forks in bulk bags, but every once in a while they get substituted with 1,000 individually wrapped forks. Which means someone gets the glamorous job of unwrapping every…single…one 😫😂

This time…

THEY CAME IN A BULK BAG!! 🎉🎉

I never thought I’d see the day a bag of plastic forks would make a grown adult yell, “Hallelujah!” 😂

Restaurant people… you get it.

Everyone else is probably wondering what’s wrong with us. 🤣

First and foremost, our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fires, and we want to thank every firefighter, first responder and support crew working tirelessly to protect our communities. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

We’ve had several people ask if we’re still open, so we wanted to let everyone know…

Yes, we’re open!

We’re here every day from 8 AM to 4 PM, serving breakfast until 11:30 AM.

Whether you’re a local, traveling through, or just looking for a good meal and a place to sit for a while, we’d love to see you.

If you ask our regulars when the best day to visit Not Doug’s is, a surprising number of them will tell you… Wednesday.

The food gets the same attention. The customer service is top notch. The mountain views haven’t gone anywhere. And instead of waiting for the weekend rush, you get to slow down, relax, and enjoy the calm.

Oh… and while you’re here…

Meet the newest member of the milkshake family: Fairy Dust.

It’s colorful, it’s ridiculously good, and yes… it’s every bit as fun as it looks.

People ask me all the time, “Where did you learn how to cook?”

And I never really know how to answer that.

Then I made myself breakfast this morning and looked down at this pan. Fried cornmeal, fried bologna and an egg. This is what I grew up eating.

We didn’t have much money growing up, so meals weren’t built around fancy ingredients. They were built around what we had. You learned how to take simple, inexpensive food and make something good out of it. Fried cornmeal and fried bologna were normal food in our house.

But when I really started thinking about it this morning, I realized my relationship with food started even earlier than that.

I grew up on a small farm. We lived off grid, and I remember working in the garden alongside my mom, growing vegetables and then preserving what we grew. I remember canning peaches and learning that food wasn’t just something that showed up on the table. I grew up being part of what it took to put it there.

I think those were probably some of my earliest cooking lessons, long before I ever realized I was learning them. Because the truth is, I didn’t learn to cook in one place or from one person. I learned from a lifetime.

From people who came through my life. From memories and experiences. From not having much and learning to make something good out of what we had. From adventures, mistakes and trying something just to see if it worked. From tasting something and immediately wondering what I could do differently with it.

And most of all, from feeding people.

I absolutely love to cook. I love creating food. I love taking an idea in my head and turning it into something on a plate. And there is something about feeding people that means more to me than I can really explain.

I also love beautiful food. But beautiful food doesn’t have to be fancy. This morning I looked at this old cast iron pan with fried cornmeal, bologna and an egg and thought it was beautiful.

Because there is a whole lifetime in that pan.

All these years later, after creating everything we serve at Not Doug’s, fried cornmeal is still on my menu. And this morning, it was still what I wanted for breakfast.

So maybe I finally have an answer when someone asks where I learned to cook.

I learned from a lifetime of people, memories, experiences and making something good out of what I had.

And somewhere along the way, all of that found its way onto the plates at Not Doug’s. ❤️
