Everybody has that song.

The one you play when you’re not necessarily trying to feel better—you just want something to sit beside you while you feel what you feel.

That’s part of what I love about ABIDE and our upcoming poetry reading.

Poetry can do the same thing. It gives us somewhere to dwell. Somewhere to put the feelings. Somewhere to be witnessed without having to explain everything.

On September 10, poet Ewurakua Dawson-Amoah joins us at NEFER to read from Sorry I Missed Your Call, I Was Trying to Kill Myself—a tender, unflinching collection about mental health, identity, grief, self-love, and finding our way from survival toward softness.
