At The Assemblage: Birth Workers, we made room for something a little different. An intimate conversation that went beyond titles, credentials, and professional introductions. We talked about the things that go unseen, the questions that don't have a place in the workplace, the weight birth workers carry, and what it means to care for others while needing care ourselves.

This wasn't your typical professional mixer. Nobody needed to pitch themselves. Nobody needed to turn their purpose into a polished elevator speech. We got to be people first. And that made all the difference.

Thank you to everyone who pulled up, shared something of themselves, listened generously, and helped make the room what it was. You reminded us that sometimes the most meaningful connections happen when we start knowing one another.

And if you're tired of going to events where the first question is always “So, what do you do?” stay connected to The Assemblage of NEFER. We're making room for conversations that go deeper than your job title, your business card, or what you can do for somebody else.

Reproduction is bigger than birth. And the conversation deserves to be, too.

Pick up these books at NEFER. Look at all the questions they raise about our bodies, our choices, our histories, our relationships, our labor, our joy, and the systems that shape how we bring life into this world — and how we choose to live our own.

At NEFER, we want the FULL conversation. Pregnancy and birth, yes. But also fertility, infertility, abortion, sexuality, pleasure, loss, motherhood, the decision not to mother, reproductive justice, and what it means to have agency over our own bodies. We want to talk about the things we whisper, the things we debate, the things we haven't quite figured out how to say.

That's The Assemblage: Birth Workers. A gathering for birth workers, maternal health professionals, advocates, writers, storytellers, and those whose work and lives touch these questions. Come ready to exchange ideas, share perspective, and make room for the conversations that don't always fit into a professional conference or a textbook.

Because caring for people means caring about the whole story. And we can't tell the whole story if we only talk about the birth.

What w**e goes with the jerk chicken?! A pastelito?!

Cha Cha's W**e Pairing for the People puts w**e alongside the food we actually eat all the time.

Jollof. Curry. Jerk. Plantains. Soul food. All the foods from across the diaspora — paired with w**es that make sense for our plates, our palates, and our tables.

Because of **ePairingForThePeople w**e isn't just about cheese boards.

Pick up W**e Pairing for the People at NEFER in the Bronx or shop it online. Your next dinner deserves a better bottle.

ABIDE asks us to stay. But what does it take to stay?

To endure without becoming hardened.
To find joy without pretending the hard things aren't there.
To witness what hurts and still make room for beauty.
To be changed by difficulty without allowing it to decide who we become.

For THE CONCRETE GARDEN, artist Kephera Ife .ife gives us another way to think about those questions—through flowers, insects, reptiles, growth, interruption, rest, resilience, and return.

This work isn't simply here to decorate the walls. It is here to be lived with.

And it’s for sale.

Come into NEFER. Spend some time with the work. Find the piece that says something you haven't quite been able to say yourself. Take it home.

Because sometimes the way we honor what we've endured is by making room for joy and how we trasmute pain into JOY.

Come in. Stay awhile. Take something beautiful with you.

TRIVIA QUESTION: WHO SAID IT?

Y’all betta light the comments up.

THE ASSEMBLAGE: HOLD ON, WE COMING is for the people whose work, stories, and lives bring them into conversation with birth and maternal health.

Birth workers. Doulas. Midwives. Nurses. Lactation professionals. Maternal-health providers. Advocates. Researchers. Educators. Organizers.

And of course, the people.

You don't need a title on your business card to belong in the room. You might be doing the work. Studying the work. Writing about the work. Advocating for the people doing the work. Or carrying a story of your own.

Come sit with us.

We'll have casual conversation prompts available to get things moving—questions about the work, the will behind it, what keeps you going, what you're learning, what you're tired of, and what you wish more people understood.

Your ticket includes Mothering the Mother: African American Postpartum Traditions, Recipes and Healing, by Shafia Monroe, foreword by Erykah Badu.

COME CLOSER. WE HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL YOU.

There’s nothing wrong with Aurora.

She’s successful. Brilliant. Back in Mexico City for a celebration.

There’s just one little problem.

She woke something up.

On October 21 at 7 PM, NEFER goes dark with acclaimed author Leopoldo Gout, author of Piñata, for an intimate evening around his newest horror novel, ROOTED.

A stolen artifact.
An Aztec god.
A family secret.
A woman coming undone.

Rooted is horror about memory, power, colonial violence, obsession—and the things that refuse to stay buried.

Marlon James calls it “a blood reckoning.”We call it your plans for October 21.
