WOW, what a year it has been for JAVA CATS.
Students have committed more time and effort than ever before to apply learned skills to their school-based enterprise. As we look back over the past months of the school year, our kids have worked their tails off.
Served over 2270 drinks this year alone
Note: Since opening in 2019, students have served over 4000 drinks.
Prepped/worked during nearly 50 hours of b-ball games in 2021-2022
Raised $1148.50 for ALS treatment and research in 2021-2022
Note: In 3 years, Java Cats has raised/donated $2048.50
Planned/Prepared/Enjoyed multiple meals in the special education Life Skills kitchen, then, prepared those same meals at home for their families.
Students are taking pride in their work, sharing their accomplishments, making memories, and finding value in the changes they are making to their lives through the school-based enterprise and Life Skills kitchen. They have made new friends, opened their eyes to new opportunities, and continue to improve their work ethic and skill set.
The social, academic, and adaptive benefits are countless and on-going as we look to the coming school year and all it has to offer.
Our students are excited to be a part of another first, in the coming year, as some will be the inaugural team of students working with Ozark Independent Living in their Wildflower Cafe set to open in the fall. This opportunity will provide students valuable life skill and vocational instruction and application through prepping, preparing, serving great food just off the square in West Plains, MO. Check them out at https://www.facebook.com/OILOzarkIndependentLiving/
Since opening, Java Cats has been asked to serve at local festivals, craft shows, parades, and numerous local events. Plans are being made to afford students these added opportunities, so they may be even more involved in the community, to share their success with others, and to continue building relationships with their hometown and all who have so generously supported their efforts.
Thanks to all the students, faculty, board, staff, area businesses/agencies, and individuals who have supported JAVA CATS this school year. What a successful and rewarding year it has been!
