Today, on Purple Heart Day, we pause to honor a remarkable group of Americans whose courage is forever etched into our nation's history.

The Purple Heart is not awarded for what someone accomplished—it is awarded for what they endured. It is a solemn reminder that freedom has always carried a price, paid in blood by men and women who answered the call of duty without knowing what sacrifice would be asked of them.

To every Purple Heart recipient: your scars tell a story of extraordinary bravery. They are a testament to your willingness to stand between danger and the people of the United States. Whether your wounds are visible or hidden, your sacrifice has forever become part of the fabric of this nation.

We owe you more than our gratitude. We owe you our remembrance, our respect, and our commitment to ensuring that the cost of your sacrifice is never forgotten or taken for granted.

To the families who stood beside you through fear, recovery, and loss, your strength is woven into every Purple Heart that has ever been awarded. Your sacrifice, too, deserves our deepest appreciation.

Today, let us lower our voices, lift our hearts, and remember that the liberties we enjoy were secured by Americans willing to give of themselves without hesitation. May we never become so accustomed to freedom that we forget those who bled to preserve it.

God bless every Purple Heart recipient, those still with us and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. May their courage continue to inspire generations of Americans to come.
