Unhealthy cells can trigger disease and illness. Research shows a strong correlation between high levels of free radicals and the likelihood of developing certain degenerative diseases. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

However - the opposite is true. Those who have high levels of antioxidants in their system are less likely to develop oxidative stress and the cellular damage it causes! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The truth is, you can’t avoid certain free radicals. Your body makes them naturally, plus they can be produced by exposure to everyday things like pesticides, air pollution, smoke, and UV rays. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, it’s not all doom and gloom! You CAN do something to LOWER your free radical production and therefore keep your cells nice and healthy. Some of these things include: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Avoid foods that may increase free radical production like alcohol and toxic fats (often found in fried foods). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Chill out! Constant chronic stress can increase the production of free radicals in the body. Try including daily activities that help you relax like mediation, reading, journaling, or doing some yoga. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Exercise: I know I said that exercise causes free radical production, but remember your body needs some free radicals to go about it’s business. Plus, the long-term effects of regular exercise actually improve overall health! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The truth is your body makes free radicals everyday! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When you exercise, breathe, and even just metabolize food! Free radicals are byproducts of natural body processes, and they do have a reason for existing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

They act like stimulants to help certain things get done. However, the trick is to strike a balance between free radicals and antioxidants. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Antioxidants help to stabilize free radicals and stop or delay their negative effects on other cells. Thankfully, your body ALSO naturally produces antioxidants. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
