Dear Groovy Dawg Friends,
I come to you with a very heavy heart to announce that I am closing the restaurant and food truck.
It has been an extremely tough decision. We opened the restaurant after many setbacks, mostly financial in nature which have plagued me from the outset. The economy is going bad, and will continue to get worse. Our current government seems uninterested in the effects this is having on working Americans and small businesses.
Everyone is cutting back on things that are not necessities. Dining out is one of the first things that people cut out of the budget. This is particularly damaging to your local small businesses. We do not have the big corporate budgets to sustain us through the down times.
Food prices are sky rocketing as you well know. When I opened my food truck in 2017 my all beef hot dogs were $125 a case. When we opened the restaurant last year they were $145. They are currently $212. This makes my hot dogs almost $2 each. I cannot absorb the cost. Nor can I justify using lesser quality ingredients or smaller hot dogs. If I did, I would be no different than the other places in town where you get very little flavor and have to eat 5 of them to be full.
Hurricane Helene last year hurt all of us, and added another layer of financial hardship to the restaurant that was just struggling to get on its feet.
I am no longer able to rob Peter to pay Paul and I have exhausted all my personal and business finances to stay afloat til now.
I am sad to say good bye. It is not what I wanted to happen. But life often times doesn’t follow the script we write for it. We simply have to adapt, grudgingly or not, and move on.
I will still be available to make banana pudding, chili, potato salad or coleslaw for you if you wish to order it. I will keep the social media active so you can check in. Maybe one day, we will rise from these ashes, but for now, I am going to take this time to rest and heal my body and spend time with my friends and loved ones.
I want to thank each and every one of you for your support and love over the years. You were the whole reason I came to work every day. It was never about the food. It was about you, my people, my community, that made the long hours and hard work worthwhile. And I love each and every one of you for the love you showed me.
