Two years ago, we made a decision that honestly scared us.
We had a restaurant that was already working. People loved the old space. It had history, nostalgia, memories, and a kind of magic that you can’t manufacture. Walking away from that, even to build something bigger and better, felt like a massive risk.
There were so many moments where we questioned ourselves. What if we lost what made Wooden City feel special? What if people felt like we changed too much?
How do you create something that feels like an upgrade while still protecting the soul of the original?
Then came two years of planning, building, problem solving, setbacks, stress, and one of the wildest weeks we’ve ever experienced trying to close one location and reopen the new one in just 8 days. And even now, reopening has been its own challenge. We doubled our seats, which means learning an entirely new rhythm and scale as a restaurant.
But somewhere along the way, this became more than just a new building. It became the biggest project our company has ever taken on. A true labor of love from our team, our partners, our friends, and everyone who poured themselves into this space.
And truthfully… even we were a little blown away seeing it all finally come together. Not because it’s bigger. But because it still feels like us.
Seeing the way Tacoma has shown up for us these last few weeks has meant more than we can properly put into words. The support, excitement, encouragement, and kindness from this community has reaffirmed every gut feeling we had about doubling down on our hometown.
We love this city deeply.
Thank you for believing in what we’re building here. We’re incredibly proud of what this space has become, and even more excited for what’s ahead.
Tacoma — we love you. ❤️
