Bio- Dain Norman is a current musician whose music feels like it came from another time and space. He plays like it’s 1966, when rock ’n’ roll was taking on its new shape, with the attitude of a 1950s rocker playing a stadium in 1976.
Seeing his live band, Dain Norman & The Chrysalis Effect, is never the same show twice. There are always twists, turns, and improvisational sections woven into the performance—taking the soul of the old styles and making them feel as if you’re meeting them for the first time.
Norman’s childhood was spent around vintage cars and classic records, spending most days with his grandfather, an old-school 1950s greaser. The sounds of Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, and The Beatles filled the house daily. By high school, Norman had expanded into ’60s psychedelic rock, soul, reggae, and the heavier rock and punk sounds of the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and early 2000s.
He began picking up instruments at an early age, learning guitar, cello, bass, drums, and piano by the time he was 13. He was writing his own songs, experimenting with recording and production, and performing at friends’ gatherings around the same time.
Originally from Florida, Norman spent much of his early 20s as a traveling musician and vagabond, playing countless open blues and rock jams and open mics across the country. Those years became a musical education ground for his improvisational guitar playing and live performance, eventually leading him to settle in Washington State.
Fast-forward to now, Norman has released and self-produced four EPs and two albums, received FM radio airplay on stations around the world, performed on numerous notable stages, and toured throughout the Pacific Northwest. His music continues to evolve while remaining grounded in the energy of the sounds that first inspired him.
He is currently self-producing and recording his new album, Sunbeam, with a strong analog ethic, while continuing to perform throughout the Pacific Northwest.
New yet vintage sounds with the integrity of the classics.
