🍎 A tandem bicycle trip through England helped inspire this Suttons Bay cider stop. Founders Nikki and Dan discovered a cider culture they wanted to bring back to Michigan.

Tandem Ciders opened in 2008, and its taproom gives you a few different ways to explore what's in the glass:

✓ A tasting flight lets you choose six pours from draft or bottled ciders. It's a way to compare several before settling on a full glass.
✓ The apple varieties change with the blend. Smackintosh uses McIntosh and Northern Spy, while Green Man combines Rhode Island Greening with McIntosh.
✓ The Leelanau Cheese Plate pairs raclette with local fruit, pickle, crackers and house-made pepper jelly. There's a snack to go with the tasting.
✓ Nonalcoholic choices include ginger ale made with Meadowlark Farm ginger. There's also switchel, a drink made with vinegar, honey and lemon.

Truly a throwback Thursday...
Tasting this Pretty Penny, aged in a Buffalo Trace barrel through the summer of 2016 is a joy. Inviting memories of peddling Pretty Penny and Smackintosh bottles to the Beverage Company, and asking if we can have "that Buffalo Trace barrel sitting in the back room". Putting our favorite cider in it, aging, carbonating, and bottling. Consuming and selling, but squirreling away just a bottle or two with a painter's tape label guiding the way to today.
The cider evokes spirits and wood, a hundred+ year orchard & project of apple diversity and a young cidery putting one foot in front of the other. If we are lucky and we try, the flavors of old will stoke the flavors of new.
