The Grand is now fully insulated, top to bottom, It's going to be very efficient energy-wise now. The sheet rock arrived and is almost completed. I won't be showing anymore interior pictures until the work is complete. But, we do have a wonderful surprise for next week! Stay tuned.

There's been a whole lot of shaking goin' on!
It's kinda hard on old buildings. Fortunately The Grand Cafe has been rebuilt to withstand these quakes. It's now strong, sturdy and stable, thanks to the crew at Monath Construction!❤️

It was an exciting day to visit The Color of Neon in Reno. Dennis and Ken are in the middle of restoring the Grand Cafe's Neon sign. Gas and glass neon is classic, so rather than switch to an LED sign we thought we would give the old neon a new life. We saw some of their other projects. I kinda fell in love with the Hotel California sign. I'd like to buy it, if only we had a hotel in Susanville to put it on. Maybe someday. But, for now the Grand will look very spiffy with its restored neon

In this 1870s photo. miners are operating hydraulic giants at the Malakoff Diggings at North Bloomfield, California. This was the largest hydraulic gold mine in the state.
