Watching my mother cook and entertain large parties at home captivated me to the point where I started helping her. I even started to prepare my own snacks and meals before or after school. As I got older, I was able to turn my love for food into my profession. Eventually I was able to work all around the world on private yachts, in restaurants, gourmet shops, catering companies, and for my own bu
sinesses. With over 25 years in the restaurant business, as a chef and in management, I have practiced many different styles of cooking in locations such as Australia, France, London, New York, Colorado, France, and South Africa. In time, I decided to take a break from running and working in my own restaurant and for others. I became a personal trainer who also provided nutrition through private meals for my clients. By packaging them so that my clients could take the food wherever they went, an urge to create something healthy, nutritious, and portable for people constantly on the go emerged. -Chef Jacobson

The idea to bring bakkie to the American food culture began when Chef Jacobson participated in a local food festival. How was one to provide a meal when there was no place to sit or tables to eat on? Not to mention, everyone would be trying to walk around, socialize, and even dance while having food in his or her hands. While getting in touch with his South African roots the answer became clear: create fresh and delicious meals that were convenient for on the go consumption. Later, when Chef Jacobson became a personal trainer, the urgency to provide a healthy, nutritious and portable meal only strengthened his desire to begin Bakkie Kitchen. In Afrikaans, “bakkie” stands for little containers. These containers filled with delicious foods are made fresh daily and are meant for your convenience. Who says you have to eat junk food in order to have a fast meal? Take the bakkie in your hand, put it in a cup holder, or spare a quick minute to sit down; either way, enjoy a deliciously satisfying and nutritious meal during your fast-paced week.
