It's pizza rooted in Chambersburg, Trenton, NJ's Little Italy, and it is made "backwards". There's less cheese, a bit of char, and crunch while retaining a good chew, and scratch-made sauce swirled on top. This is how pizzas were made when my family immigrated to the United States, before they were adulterated by large commercial pizza chains using heavily processed ingredients. Though the style comes from Trenton, our pizzas are made with as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. Many of our specials revolve around items we find at farmers markets, or what is available in season. Unfortunately, the phrase "We use the finest ingredients" has become so over-used it is nearly meaningless. The best ingredients don't come off the back of a Sysco truck from Mexico. We also have a rotating inventory of locally brewed craft b**r. Italian food has always been local in nature. This is why there are so many regional variations around the country. When Italians came to the United States, they used what was available locally to make things that seemed familiar. My hometown was once redolent with storefronts proudly displaying neon signs reading "Tomato Pies". Legend has it that the word Pizza supplanted "Tomato Pies" simply because it was less expensive to produce the signs with fewer letters. Trenton is still home to the oldest continually operating Tomato Pie (Pizza) Joint in the country. We're bringing Salvatore's Tomato Pies to life to celebrate the old traditions and share them with a new generation. It is the name of my 4-year-old son. This restaurant is about creating something tangible for him while honoring my family history. Our tomato pies are created by drawing upon my upbringing in an Italian-American home, where good food was always the centerpiece of every family gathering.

howdy Sun Prairie! As you guys come in tonight make sure you say hi to Elena, a long time server, line cook, host and manager who has come back part time to give us a hand!

It’s always hard to say goodbye to employees, but it’s equally awesome when former employees come back to help us out at Sal’s. Keep your eyes open for Elena, she’s somehow always in 4 different places at once!

You asked for it, we got it! Chef Brian on nothing more than a paddle boat and a dream braved the open ocean, jumped into the water and rounded up this wild Coho salmon with his bare hands to bring back to Salvatore's menu! Ok so that's not entirely true but regardless check out this entree going live tomorrow!

TOMATOES, DON'T LEAVE ON THAT TRAIN IT'S GOING TO LONDON AND WE CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU!!...Ahem, sorry about that, it's just, kinda emotional when the seasons change. We still have some of our farmer partners with some beautiful tomatoes and Chef Brian wanted to capitalize on the final part of tomato season with our newest market pie, a little twist on the classic Margherita!

Hello Sun Prairie, and happy Wednesday!

One of the best parts of this job is getting to know our local farmers and artisans, and over time they become part of our wacky family.

If you've been around us for a while, you know our friends over at Ann In A Jam, who we've paired for for fan favorites such as the BOF burger. If you frequent the Sun Prairie Farmers Market, you've probably met Brooks, the wacky and fun hype man, and gotten to try Ann's genius creations (she's pretty dang fun too!).

Last year their daughter Reggie was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Now Reggie is a kid who doesn't slow down for much, and T1D wasn't gonna be the start of that. She's one tough kid, and we couldn't be more proud of her. This year on October 4th, the family will be participating in the BreakthroughT1D walk to help raise funds for research and education. If you're able to support them in doing so, it will be greatly appreciated!
