Labor Day weekend is here and somehow September came right along with it. We’re not entirely sure how that happened, but here we are. Please use caution pulling into our already ridiculous parking lot, there’s some continued road work happening.

We’re open 6am to 6pm today with the full menu all day, homemade pastry, cider donuts, breakfast, lunch, dinner (Shepherds Pie ready to grab!) and plenty of grab-and-go for whatever your weekend has in store.

Whether you’re headed to work, tackling a project, squeezing in one more summer adventure or doing absolutely nothing productive, stop in and see us.

Thanks for continuing to show up for our little store, telling your friends about us and keeping us busy. We really do have the best people coming through these doors.

Have a good Labor Day weekend, friends. Eat something good and enjoy it.

Tomorrow is looking like one of those Wednesdays with a little bit of everything happening around here.

We’re making a big batch of house made tomato soup for lunch with beautiful local tomatoes. It’s September 1, so we’re acknowledging that fall exists without getting carried away about it. šŸ˜€

There will also be plenty of homemade pastry in the case, including our cider donuts. Cider donuts are allowed. Pumpkins can wait just a bit longer.

The full kitchen menu will be going from 6am to 6pm, with fresh breakfast sandwiches in the morning, SPAM Musubi, sandwiches, salads, and plenty of grab-and-go throughout the day. Shepherds Pie will be back for grab and go dinners this week and next week will be chicken pot pie.

Wednesday also means a fresh delivery from our friends at Food Connects Food Hub , bringing us another round of great local food from farms and producers around the region.

Meanwhile, Will is working on the weigh station this week, another project getting checked off the never-ending store list. Every time we cross something off, we’re pretty sure two more things quietly add themselves.

And don’t forget, local delivery is still FREE. Groceries, lunch, dinner, whatever you need, give us a call and we’ll bring it your way.

We’ll see you tomorrow, 6am to 6pm. šŸ‘ŒšŸ½

Mondays have a funny way of reminding me what a good team Will and I really are.

It’s our one day with the doors closed, but it’s rarely much of a day off. There are orders to place, errands to run, things to clean and fix, paperwork to catch up on, baking and prep to think about, and about seventeen other things we somehow decided needed to happen that day.

And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I always notice how well we’ve learned to work together.

We divide and conquer. One of us remembers what the other forgot. We switch gears when something inevitably doesn’t go according to plan. We annoy each other sometimes, make each other laugh a lot, and just keep moving.
Building this store and this life together has asked a lot of both of us. It can be messy and exhausting and completely overwhelming, but I’m really proud of the team we’ve become through it all.

There’s nobody else I’d rather spend a Monday getting seventeen things done with.

Sunday morning at the little store and we’ve got a full pastry case, coffee going, breakfast ready and the usual assortment of things happening slightly out of order.

Our kitchen takes a rest on Sundays, but we’ve been busy making sure there’s still plenty here for you. Fresh homemade breakfast sandwiches are ready to grab, along with cinnamon rolls, cider donuts, fresh pastry, sandwiches, salads and plenty of other easy things to take home for later.

And most importantly… our blueberry turnover customer. WHERE ARE YOU? You have been waiting so patiently for these things and we would like it officially noted that WE HAVE BLUEBERRY TURNOVERS. šŸ˜‚ They are fresh, they are in the case, and at this point we’re all a little invested in making sure you actually get one.

SPAM musubi is also coming today, but it’s running a BIT behind. Apparently the musubi has decided Sunday morning is for taking its time too. Sorry for the delay!

We’re here 8–6 today. The kitchen may be resting, but the store certainly isn’t. Come grab some coffee, breakfast, something sweet, lunch for later, or just wander in and see what we’ve been up to.

And seriously, blueberry turnover person… please report to the store. We have fulfilled our end of the bargain. šŸ¤—

Happy Saturday from the usual controlled chaos over here.

We’ve got Frog Belly Farm kale, chard and herbs, Tenney Farm LLC corn, Alyson's Orchard peaches and apples, fresh homemade pastry, sandwiches, SPAM musubi and the full kitchen going today, including pizza.

We’re also officially gearing up for hunting season, which means we’ve entered that special time of year when we somehow keep finding more things to do while already having no idea how we’re doing all the things we’re currently doing. 🄓

Anyway, we’re here 6 to 6, the place is stocked, there’s plenty to eat, and we’re doing our very best to razzle dazzle our way through another Saturday. Come see us!

Local farmer friends, we’re looking for greens!
We’ve had some challenges lately finding a regular, reliable source for local lettuce and salad greens, so we thought we’d put the word out and see who might be growing nearby.

If you’re growing lettuce, mixed greens, spinach, arugula, or anything similar and might have a steady supply available now or coming up, we’d love to hear from you.

And if you know a local farm we should connect with, feel free to tag them below! We’d really love to keep more of those dollars close to home whenever we can. Monadnock Farm & Community Coalition

Today was a day.

Couldn’t really tell you why, but it felt like about six different days packed into one. And then somehow you all showed up and kept us running pretty much nonstop.

Three years into this and we’ve learned there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to traffic at the store. None. We have stopped trying to understand it. And that’s okay.

But wow, today was busy. Apparently the loaded steak and fries burrito struck a nerve.
It’s just Will, Ryan and me, so when it gets busy, everybody is doing everything. At some point ā€œwe really razzle dazzled them todayā€ became something we say to each other when we’ve made it through a day and somehow managed to pull it all together.

There was a fair amount of razzle dazzling happening today.

Mostly though, there was just a lot of gratitude.

Every time you choose to grab lunch here, pick up a few groceries, stop for a drink, bring a friend in or just come through the door and say hi, it matters.

Today was a really, really good day for our little store.

Thank you. We needed it, and we appreciate you more than you know. ā¤ļø

Starting tomorrow, we’ve got a new special coming out of the kitchen: the Loaded Steak & Fries Burrito.

Tender seasoned steak, crispy fries, sour cream, salsa and guacamole, all piled into a warm tortilla and wrapped up into one seriously loaded burrito.

Steak and fries already belong together, so naturally we decided the next logical step was to put the whole thing in a burrito.

Starting tomorrow and available while supplies last!

Some days are boring. And you know what? That’s okay.

Boring doesn’t always have to be a bad thing.
Sometimes boring means you get your ordering done, catch up on a few things that have been hanging around on the list, make some new contacts, and actually have time for some good, long conversations with the regulars who have become such a familiar part of our days.

And sometimes it means having a customer tell you they’ve been coming to Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music since 1982, and they can’t imagine making the trip without seeing the store and stopping in.

Those are the things that stick with us.
Running a little country store isn’t always big announcements, crazy kitchen days, broken equipment, construction projects, or some new adventure. Sometimes it’s just a quiet Sunday behind the counter, talking to people, getting some work done, and being reminded that this old store is part of people’s routines and traditions in ways we don’t always get to see.

So we’ll take the boring days, too.

They’re actually pretty nice every once in a while. (Thanks again Jake for these pretty amazing shots! šŸ“·)

Whoops. A little panic may have set in yesterday when Route 9 was suddenly down to one lane, equipment was up and running, and there were enough signs and trucks out there to make us think, ā€œOh. So I guess we’re doing this now.ā€

We were not, in fact, doing this now.
The overnight paving officially starts Sunday at 7 PM.

So after our slightly premature warning yesterday, we can confirm that today is just a regular Saturday around here. We’re open, the coffee is on, the bakery case is filling up, the kitchen is cooking, and you can get in and out just fine. We’ve got Alyson's Orchard apples & peaches, Monadnock Berries blueberries & lots of grab and go foods & snacks.

Apparently yesterday was the dress rehearsal.
Happy Saturday, everyone. Thanks for bearing with us, and our occasional Route 9-induced panic.
