Our community has always been at its best when we come together for one another.

If you've lived around Suffolk very long, chances are you know Brandon Faison, or at least you've enjoyed some of his fresh caught crabs he is known for. Brandon has been the guy so many of us called when it was time for a crab feast with family, friends and co-workers.

Brandon is facing one of the toughest battles of his life as he fights cancer.

So many great memories of an outstanding man are on my mind today as we celebrate Ron Young Heavenly Birthday.

While we are still cleaning out everything we came across an entire case of Cow Bells in storage. Ron was a big part of making sure we rang our bells everyday during the 'pandemic' for the health care workers. He joined us everyday at 3pm to remind us. He was also the only customer allowed to ring a bell during his MSU Dogs games!

Please if you are passing by today or tomorrow take a bell with you and ring in Ron's memory!

Ron was a one of kind regular and is still missed. If I was having a stressful day, seeing him play drums on the bar would automatically get my mind off what was going on. I then would chat and his words of wisdom were just what I needed. I will always cherish those times.

Why the Possum photo? I did not know until Linda Young told me when she came to get his picture and license plate when we closed that Possum was his nickname when working in the Operating Room! Well back on November 14, 2024 'Possum' mad an appearance for 'Just one More'. He spent 2 nights in my office/beer storage. We couldn't get him to leave! That was definitely a sign of Ron!

YES! We are officially closed!

Thank You, Suffolk & Beyond

After 11 unforgettable years, our doors have officially closed, but our hearts are so full.

What started as a dream turned into a gathering place for families, friends, coworkers, first dates, celebrations, and Sunday traditions. We’ve watched kids grow up, toasted to milestones, comforted heavy hearts, and shared more laughs than we can count.

To our hometown of Suffolk... thank you for embracing us from day one.

To our extended family across Hampton Roads, and those who made the drive from Emporia, Newsomes, Franklin, Smithfield, Moyock, the Outer Banks, Gates County, and even as far as Charlottesville, we see you. We appreciate you. We will never forget you.

You didn’t just support a restaurant.
You supported a dream.
You supported our staff.
You supported our families.

For 11 years, you filled our dining room with life and in return, we hope we filled your tables with good food and even better memories.

After 11 incredible years, the time has come for Mason’s Grill & Smokehouse to close its doors.

Trying to put this journey into words is harder than I imagined. What started as a dream became over a decade of memories, friendships, celebrations, challenges, growth, and community. Mason’s has been more than a restaurant; it has been a gathering place, a meeting spot, and for me, the heart and soul of my life for the past 11 years.

We have had the true honor of hosting and supporting so many meaningful events in our community. From fundraisers for Kings Fork High School, to hosting the Suffolk Business Women, to serving and supporting local organizations throughout the area, each event reminded us why we opened our doors in the first place. Being able to give back and support amazing organizations like Roc Solid Foundation has been one of the greatest privileges of this journey.

These 11 years have truly been fantastic. They were filled with laughter in the dining room, busy nights at the smoker, holiday celebrations, birthdays, first dates, reunions, and countless conversations that turned guests into lifelong friends.

Opening a restaurant is hard. Keeping one alive for over a decade is even harder. It requires sacrifice, long hours, resilience, and an incredible support system. I have done everything possible to keep our doors open for our staff and for this community, but sadly, the time has come to close this chapter.

Please stay tuned in the coming days for details as we gather to honor the memories, the friendships, and the community that made this place so special.

Our final weekend will be this upcoming weekend. We will be serving a limited menu as we finish this journey the same way we started it, with hospitality, gratitude and pride. We hope you’ll join us one last time.

I am deeply thankful for every single person who walked through our doors. Thank you for trusting Mason’s with your celebrations, your family dinners, your business meetings, and your milestones. The relationships built here will always mean more to me than the business itself.

To our employees, past and present, this restaurant would have been nothing without you. Your dedication, patience, hard work, and loyalty are the reasons we were able to serve this community for 11 years. You put up with long shifts, busy weekends, and everything in between, and you did it with heart. I sincerely hope you carry good memories from your time here and that you were able to take something meaningful from the experience. I am forever grateful for what you have done for the mutual success of this business.

Mason's has shaped me, challenged me, and blessed me in more ways than I can count. While it is incredibly difficult to say goodbye, I will always cherish what we built together.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Suffolk, for allowing Masons Grill and Smokehouse to be part of your lives for 11 wonderful years.
