How Ivy’s became Ivy’s... 💚
People often ask me where the name Ivy’s Gourmet came from. The answer is actually a family story.
I grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where food, family and small business were part of everyday life. My family owned several grocery and restaurants, and around our dinner table we talked about everything from quality and value to how to give customers something they couldn’t find anywhere else.
Years later, when my own daughters were little, I found myself back in the kitchen, baking and experimenting.
My oldest daughter had caught the baking bug early. She started wearing an apron when she was just three, and we began making granola together. She loved granola, so we started playing around with recipes and slowly, very slowly, created something we loved.
We changed everything.
The oats. The nuts. The fruit. The seeds. The spices. The oils. The sweeteners. The oven temperature.
We tasted. We tweaked. We tried again. And again!
Eventually, we thought we had something special enough to share, so we made gift bags for the holidays.
Then came the big question: What should we call it?
We chose my daughter’s middle name: Ivy.
And when someone described what we were making as “gourmet granola”, the name Ivy’s Gourmet was born. 💚
But here’s the part of the story that matters just as much:
Ivy’s has always been a family affair.
While Ivy inspired the name, her younger sister has been a vital part of the journey, too. She has helped with marketing, joined me at trade shows, tested recipes and, like the rest of our family, has had plenty of opinions about new flavors!
That’s one of the things I love most about this business.
It started in my kitchen with my daughters, grew through a whole lot of trial and error, and continues today because of the people who taste our granola, tell us what they love, suggest what we should try next and come back for more.
From our family kitchen in Connecticut to customers throughout New England, New York, New Jersey and beyond, Ivy’s continues to grow one batch, one flavor and one customer at a time.
And yes…We’re still experimenting!
Thank you so much for being part of our story.
