Borage is one of our favorite crops. It attracts all the best pollinators. It has a very delicate & unique flavor that can enhance salads, seafood, and even chocolate. We also dry the leaves in the fall and use it in tea blends. All this AND…
- Historically, borage was infused into w**e to give soldiers “courage” and lift melancholy
-It’s packed with niacin, polyphenols, and flavonoids, which contribute to its anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) and sedative properties. It is used to soothe the nervous system, lower stress levels, and support exhausted adrenal glands after prolonged periods of stress
-Borage is packed with Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, calcium, and potassium. Also it contains powerful compounds like rosmarinic acid and kaempferol, which fight oxidative stress, protect brain tissue, and help regulate blood sugar
-QUICK NOTE: it is slightly toxic in large doses for dogs & cats. Borage will not bother them in proximity or when they help you garden and chomp little bits (Gary and Roux do not like the flavor, but they try it once a week to make sure) unless they eat a lot of it, and it’s the same for humans. In the garden and on your plates it’s very beneficial, but like anything if you go completely nuts and eat it all day every day, the benefits flip.
