Saint Louis is a major ragtime capital. Tom Turpin became the father of St. Louis ragtime, opening the Rose Bud bar and publishing “Harlem Rag” in 1897. Scott Joplin later moved to the city, living there from 1901 to 1907 while writing and cementing his legacy.
While the genre had deep roots across Missouri, including Sedalia, where Joplin first published “Maple Leaf Rag”, St. Louis served as the bustling urban crucible, river hub, and entertainment district where the music matured, scaled, and gained national fame.

The famous landmark Pierce Arrow Building (built in 1914) in Saint Louis’ historic and iconic Central West End is where Evangeline’s housed. Today is a show of cars spanning the history of the automobile with music by the legendary Sarah Jane & the Blues Notes.

Sarah Jane & the Blue Notes perform 11:30a-2:30p. This Sunday features a classic & antique car show outside the Historic Pierce Arrow Building at Evangeline’s. No cover.
