This month features the December Supermoon on the 4th, a Moon–Jupiter meeting on the 7th, the Geminid meteor shower peak on the 13th–14th, the New Moon on the 20th, the December Solstice on the 21st, and the Ursid meteor shower on the 22nd–23rd.

Yellow Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum)

Yellow Trout Lily is an early spring blooming wildflower native to Wisconsin. It grows to a height of five to ten inches and has nodding yellow flowers. Each flower is an inch wide and has six backward curving tepals (3 pedals and 3 similar sepals).The plant has mottled foliage that resembles the markings of a brook trout. The leaves are eight inches long, elliptical, pointed, and basal. It thrives in shady woodlands with moist, well-drained, and organically rich soils, typically under deciduous trees.
