Greetings everyone,
We are facing some very hard times right now as a community. Many of our friends and family members have been evacuated from their homes, without any idea if or when they'll be able to return.
Our family wishes to extend our thoughts and prayers to those who have been affected, as well as the brave men and women who have stepped up to fight these wildfires.

Greetings everyone!

We are here to give just a little update on how things have been going with our relaunch.

We had to install another sink to make the health department happy and then the faucet broke on said sink. At this point, it's become a running joke with my husband who is already making plans to install a bidet.... just in case.

We got into a brief property dispute with the marmots that live in the back yard of the restaurant. They have been informed that we cannot have them pooping on the cement pad where we cook as this will not make the health department happy. They are continuing to be uncooperative with both our verbal and written requests, so we have reached out to a few experts to see what we can do so that everyone can live and work peacefully back there.

Before anyone suggests it, coyote urine spray has already been suggested by my brother and immediately turned down by me. I don't even need to consult the health department to imagine how that would look...... and smell.

Also.... we now have 5 baby turkeys in our neighborhood that we've caught on camera running around with their mama.

And finally, while attempting to get our equipment washed so we could get set back up, we began to experience plumbing issues with the main line and needed to call in the professionals. After a few hours of hard work, our pro was able to get us up and running again.

We are now finally ready to schedule an appointment with the health inspector so that we can finally get up and going. We are aiming for the first week in July but will keep you all posted.

Hey guys! Our neighbors at the Spokane Business Journal reached out to us a few weeks ago and now we're making the news. Thank you, Matthew Stephens for sitting down with us.

Wandering Bear Kitchen is prepping to open at 429 E. Second in Spokane, with a focus on wood-smoked meals, take-and-bake dishes, and community connection. Belinda and Shaunn Wenig expect to open the 800-square-foot facility in late May, offering a gathering spot where people can meet and eat.

We are still hard at work converting this once former gas station into a proper eatery.

Part of what's taking some time is that we have to make sure the space is satisfactory for several government entities, our landlord, and insurance company. Wood smoke means we will be using fire, so everyone wants to ensure that we are set up appropriately from the very beginning.

The good news is that we have made a ton of progress over the last week and we are just about ready to move into the final stage before opening, which means lots of paperwork and inspections.
