Putting on my professional hat for a moment. Just speaking in general. About claims from the storm.
Generally which is NOT the same as ALWAYS… your claim adjuster is a human who primarily want to close the claims they have been assigned. That means figuring out the who, what, when ,where why and how.
You can help the process by having as much information as possible.
What was damaged? Is it repairable?
Cleanable? Destroyed?
Make a list.
What kind of food? How much did it cost ?
What kind of sofa? Where did you buy it?
When did you buy it? How much did it cost? How much would a similar one as close to the one you have , cost today? What happened to the sofa? Was it burned, flooded, broken? Do you still have the item? A receipt? A picture? A picture of you sitting on it? A picture of a new one and today’s cost of it?
If you are frustrated with providing the information, imagine the task of the human responsible for figuring out how to arrive at the amount to pay you. Help the process .
Everything is not covered for everything that happened. The adjuster has to document and justify the reimbursement.
Generally, they are not paid based on the dollar amount of your claim, generally they just want to close your claim. They have questions they must ask… you have a lot of the answers. You have to do the awful job of writing your life on some papers and putting a dollar value to it.
Your insurance company cannot replace memories and items that you lost.
Adjusters generally cannot pay for damage excluded in your policy.
Help establish expectations… when should I hear from you?
How will I hear from you?
What do I need to do to help you help me?

Be confident in the contractor you hire to repair your damage. Make decisions as if it is your money paying for the repairs, you are responsible. A year from now, if something was not repaired properly.. do you have a warranty on the labor? The insurance company may not be responsible for issues that arise . Ask. Does the contractor have insurance? Set proper repair expectations. When will the work begin, when will it be completed?
I should have started this post asking you to pray for God to help you come out of this test with a testimony pleasing to His purpose in your life. If His will and His way is not relevant in your life, this information may not help you.
If it helps anyone,I have completed my assignment.
This too will pass. Something else is going to happen. You can handle it.
