10 days and counting till the closing of Bantam what a interesting journey it has been in South Bend . There are lots of people I would like to thank for believing in me and not giving up on Bantam. Many people try to follow there dreams and never get there , reason being all because of fear. The fear of what people think. Coming into this the biggest fear I had was what if it never worked out, but honesty it actually did better then I expected. Say what you want but it’s true being a black man (I hate using the word minority) makes it harder, because you are not just here to work for the man but to make a future for your self. I learned even the ones that are closest to you would do anything to bring you down all because there not happy with their life. Hell I been called all kind of names even had a certain person try to tarnish my name all because of their selfish need to control what I had going on (I could write a tale all book with that situation). I never really share my thoughts on any social media because us humans rarely have any privacy in the world anymore but at the end of the day Bantam is me. I’m silent but mentally aggressive so with that being said. There are to many egos out here I remember a few years back when new things were happening and the chefs around here were trying to change the out look on things in South Bend food scene way before Covid. Real pop ups, collaboration were happening, people were talking more and trying to make real things happen. No one man or women is greater then the next. We can all say we got busy but at the end of the day it’s all about the Ego, who’s better, who’s making more money, or who’s on top. There is a very big disconnect here and honestly we all know it as chefs .There is so much talent in this small town and it’s not being used it’s being overlooked and unseen. To the young cook out here when you are done with school leave, go and explore the whole damn world there is so much more to offer out there. Trust me you will not be disappointed. Honestly you might be pi**ed off you paid for school. 📸:
