COVID killed The Shack! 2019 was our best year as far as our sales, between $800,000 and $900,000. That year the books were always in good shape, I didn't need to loan any money back to the company for operating expenses (which I needed to do in many of the previous years), and if we wanted to buy anything for the business, the money was there to do so. 2020 started out strong and we were planning our St. Patty's celebration, which was huge for us the previous year, and then, March 17th 2020, the world stopped spinning and everything was shut down. Years earlier, our business was mostly younger patron who liked to drink until close. That crowd stayed with us for years until they got older, got married, had children, and moved into a different life style with much less drinking. Our business moved on also, to an older crowd coming in with friends and family for our food, with still a healthy percentage of younger people hanging out. After March 17th 2020, we lost a large percentage of our older crowd. We have continually lost money since then, We lost all of the first PPP loan, the second PPP loan, and the money that I loaned the business during these two plus years. I have often loaned the business money to get over the hump, but this time seems to be different, our volume just got crushed. Not crying, just putting it out there as some of the things that went into my decision to close for now.

Mornin', we're closed today, normally haven't been opening on Mondays lately. Saturday, I woke up to a situation that I felt I could no longer tolerate, the business is slipping and I, for too long left things get out of control with certain aspects of the business. I contacted the employees who were scheduled to work that day and then posted that we were closed to notify everyone else. There's a saying, "When you find your self in a hole, stop digging!" I posted what I knew at the time, which was that I didn't know what I was going to do, other than close for the next two days. If I can make the adjustments that I need to make, we'll reopen ASAP. It's hard to get any projects accomplished while you're open and running, so I might take some extra time to address some things that need attention before we reopen, or if we don't reopen, to make the place a little more marketable. I need to have a frank discussion with my two daughters before moving forward. So, like I posted Saturday, see ya... maybe?

Wanted to open at noon today, trying to get back to some sort of normal, but we're so far from normal that we're closed today and for Fathers' Day. I need a break to figure out what I'm going to do, might close for a while and reopen after I get some projects finished to just get a break from the day to day, or I don't know what. See ya...maybe?

We open at 2:00 today, trying to expand our hours gradually. Tomorrow, we'll open noon. They made fresh breaded Mozz last night and they're making cheese burger egg rolls today. Still looking for cooks, servers, and dish washers, trying to get back to some sort of normal. Gonna hit another roadblock, a cook and a server are leaving soon. These continual setbacks are wearing me down. I like owning the bar, but not so much right now and I don't know if a long term view is the right move. Better days are ahead... maybe? See ya.

I posted earlier, don't know where it went? Anyway, it's Taco Thursday, doesn't sound quite as good but it tastes the same. We're making specials for the weekend, some cheeseburger egg rolls and some fresh breaded Mozz. Made a run for supplies, had to pick up some more serving trays. How do those disappear? Anyway, we were down to one of 16 inch trays and that size is the one that is most used. Gotta make a small roof for our new TV out back, I think that the rain got to the other one, there's a tear right above it. See ya.

Getting a little warm out there, enjoy the outdoors today in the shade with the fans out back cooling things down. We open at 4:00 with our limited menu. I had to work the bar for a while last night and everyone was fine with the choices that we offered. It's kinda like just bar food plus we had tacos... cause it was Tuesday... and we used to have Taco Tuesday... so we made tacos too... and had $2.50 Margaritas. Tomorrow is Taco Thursday, so if you didn't get your fix last night, you can hit it tomorrow. The reservation out back went well, we might been able to squeeze a few more but seating was at a premium. We replaced two of our TV's, one out back and one inside, I don't know how many TV's that I purchased over the years, but it's well over 50! Gotta go, See ya.

Hey, it's not Taco Tuesday, but it is Pizza Night. That's right, steak sandwiches, pretzels, all of our fryer foods and PIZZA! We're breaking in our new cook gently before we put her into the pressure cooker! We're scrambling to put together a schedule for the additional days, one of the bar tenders called off for the night and yours truly needs to jump in behind the bar on the inside for a bit till a replacement gets here. Gotta get, see ya.

06/13/2022

We're closed this Monday, open tomorrow at 4:00 PM inside and out with a limited menu. There's a reservation out back for 15-20, looks like the weather is gonna hold out for these guys. Starting our new cook tomorrow also. We're limiting the menu to try to reduce wait time and to limit the equipment used to prepare the food to reduce clean-up time at the end of the night. We're most likely gonna limit the existing menu to fewer items for the weekend also while we're short staffed. See ya.

06/12/2022

We opened at 9:00 AM this morning for breakfast, got one of our cooks that used to do breakfast working with our current breakfast cook, trying to get the food out a little quicker. We'll be closed this Monday to get things in order for Tuesday's and Wednesday's smaller menu debut. Listed our latest NASCAR winners today, check if you're one! Race Day is sign-in day, have a free one on us. That's about it, see ya.

Last night was slow and had me a little down, happens every time. However, things turned a bit today. Interviewed someone for a cooking position and I believe that we will hire this person, gonna finalize tomorrow. Had another ex-cook request to come back and that person is starting tomorrow. Plus, we're playing phone tag with another person for something, not quite sure what this person is looking for. So, in the course of one day our cooking situation changed quite a bit in a favorable way. If things at least remain the way they look at this moment, we will open for more hours, might even need to hire more wait staff. Looking at opening Friday and Saturday from 11:00 AM till 12:00 midnight, and looking at being open with limited menu Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4:00 PM till 11:00. Thursday will remain as is for now. Keep in mind that everything could go to s**t in a minute! But that's what we looking at now. Have a good night! See ya.

Another nice day out there, we open at 4:00 PM inside and out. We got good news and bad news for ya. The bad news, our new cook got mandated overtime for this weekend, so she'll be MIA for the rest of this week. The good news, I finally looked into our inbox for our page. The messages went back as far as early 2020. Sorry about those reservations you guys were asking about. Someone picked up my HP 564 ink cartridges that I posted from about a half of a year ago. Just threw them out Wednesday and picked them out of the trash yesterday after reading a post about someone being interested in them. Got someone coming in for an interview tomorrow for a cooking position from one post and got two irons in the fire for bartenders and another for another cook. So, good news, bad news! Have a good weekend, see ya.

We opened at 4:00 PM today with the full kitchen. Matter of fact, we're offering all of our Taco Tuesday special too, including Margaritas for $2.50. We're breaking in our new cook tonight too. Thinking of offering a very limited menu for the days that our kitchen is closed. Get more on that later, gonna get see ya.
