Skagway welcomed Woadie's with open arms in 2017, and we couldn't be more appreciative for the journey we have had "so far." The family first culture we've built at Waodie's isn't obtainable without the experiences, support, loyalty, and invaluable relationships the staff and I continue to experience in this community. Whether it's prime time with a 40-foot line or Woadie's looks like a big hole in the ground, the little corner on 4th & State is undoubtedly where I feel at home.
I was very vocal in 2017 that our goal was not a food trailer. Our goal was to establish an employee health and happiness-based culture, a reputation for exceptional service, and do our very best to utilize local products whenever possible. I was confident that focusing on these pillars would one day allow us to remove that temporary trailer, that awful tent cover, and build something this community could be proud of. The last few years have been challenging for us all. With the blessing of loyal business relationships, which turned into great mentorships and dear friends, and digging my heels in, I am proud to say I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
A brief overview of our current construction project consists of the following:
- Removal of the food trailer "permanently."
- Renovate the existing Woadie's building into the new kitchen.- Extend the south end of the patio 10'.
- Construct two new restrooms on the southeast corner of the patio.
- Construct a south wind wall.
- Construct a timber-frame cover, protecting 60% of the patio.
It has been a wonderful 5 years, and we hope to be here for many more years to come. At this time, I ask for the entire communities support in achieving one of the final pieces of this project. We hope to solidify Woadie's long-term position in Skagway by acquiring a Restaurant/Eating Place Public Convenience (REPC) license.
We will need roughly 600 signatures that abide by the following rules:- Permanent Skagway resident.
- 21 years of age or older.
- Reside within 1-mile of Woadie's "all of Skagway."
- Physical address "Matching Alaska Voter Identification card, P.O. BOX will not be accepted."
I have moved my office to 4th & State to collect signatures and answer all questions on 05-09-2022 from 1 pm - 6 pm.
Thank you for your support,
Kyle
