🎂🐟 Happy 100th Birthday, Mary Gilliam! 🐟🎂

When Mary Gilliam’s daughter Judy asked her where she wanted to celebrate her 100th birthday, the answer came without a moment’s hesitation — “At the Catfish!”

Judy gently reminded her they’d already been in three times that week. Mary’s reply? “There is no better place to eat than Hagy’s!”

Now THAT is a woman who knows what she wants — and has impeccable taste! 🙌

Mary, you are one of the most loyal, sharp-minded, and sweetest souls to ever pull up a chair at our tables. It is an absolute honor to be your favorite place on earth. We hope you’re celebrating today with a big plate of the catfish you love, surrounded by the people who love you most.

Most Mondays we’re closed, but today is different. For everyone coming to walk the grounds at Shiloh National Military Park — we’ll have a hot plate and sweet tea waiting when you’re ready.

Forty-four years ago, the world got a little brighter — and Allison Cornelius from Corinth has been proving it ever since. The kind of woman who walks in a room and you just feel it — that smile, that grace, that love for the Lord and the family He gave her. Beauty like that runs all the way to the bone.

We’re proud she chose to spend a little of her birthday with us. Happy 44th, Allison. May the good Lord keep blessing you the way you bless everyone around you. 🎂🙏

Some tables hold more than food. They hold memory.

The round table by the fireplace here has a name — Ms. Rosie’s Table. It earned that name over more than 70 years of the Landreth family pulling up a chair, breaking cornbread, and doing what Southern families do best: showing up for one another.

And they’re still showing up.

Last week the Landreths gathered to celebrate young Jacob’s Pre-K graduation from First Baptist Church in Selmer — and the day had a little something extra in store. The Army National Guard set down right there in the field, and Jacob got his picture standing beside that helicopter, eyes wide and heart full.

His verdict? “It was bigger than me!”

Son, we have a feeling you’re going to grow into some big things yourself.

Congratulations to Jacob and the whole Landreth family. Ms. Rosie would be so proud to see her table still at the center of it all. 🎓🚁🐟

🇺🇸 A special note from your friends at Hagy’s Catfish Hotel 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day — Monday, May 26 — we’ll be open, and we’d love to see you.

As most of you know, we sit just a stone’s throw from Shiloh National Military Park, one of the most sacred grounds in all of the South. This Monday, that hallowed place will host a moving remembrance ceremony at Shiloh National Cemetery beginning at 11 a.m. — featuring a military flag presentation, patriotic music, a firing salute, the playing of Taps, and a keynote address by Brigadier General Harold E. Lomenick of the Mississippi National Guard.

We typically close our doors on Mondays, but not this one. It wouldn’t feel right to close on a day like this — not here, not next to ground like that.

Come out after the ceremony, or anytime during the day. Bring your family. Pull up a chair. Let us feed you something good while you honor the memory of those who gave everything.

We’ll have the catfish on. 🐟

🎂 Now THAT’S a birthday worth driving for!

A great big Hagy’s thank-you to Paul Smith for pointing his whole crew our way to celebrate in style! Paul and five friends from the “Downhill Slide” birthday group made the trip from Iuka, MS, Tishomingo, MS, and all the way from Alabama — and we were so glad they did!

There’s something special about folks who know that when a birthday calls for a real meal, you don’t settle. You make the drive. 🐟

Paul, we hope the catfish was everything you promised them it would be — and then some. Happy Birthday to all the Downhill Sliders! You’ve got a table waiting here anytime the occasion calls for it. 🎉

We have some exciting news to share, and we’ll admit — it feels pretty good to see it in print. 🎣

Southern Living magazine has featured Hagy’s Catfish Hotel alongside two other legendary catfish restaurants that have been feeding families for generations — Middendorf’s Seafood Restaurant in Manchac, Louisiana, and Ezell’s Fish Camp in Lavaca, Alabama. Three families. Three rivers. Nearly a century apiece of whole fried catfish, hush puppies, and the kind of hospitality that keeps grandchildren coming back to the same tables their grandparents once sat at.

The writer said it well — wood-paneled walls covered in black-and-white photos, staffers who have been around for decades, and passed-down dishes that are made from scratch and rarely tweaked. That’s us, all right.

As Jim put it to the magazine, “Over the years, tastes have changed… but the catfish is still the winner.”

We are grateful for every one of you who has made the drive down to the river, sat at our tables, and kept this tradition alive. This one’s for you — and for Norvin and Dorothy, who started it all.
