We have had a lot of customers ask us how to get involved with our Trunk or Treat Jeep Night Fundraiser for Sunflower House(4-7pm Halloween Night). Here's a little list to give you ideas on how to help the cause! The Jeepers bring their own candy to get the ball rolling which is very appreciated but we learned last year that the candy runs out quick! So donating bags of candy between now and then will be crucial to the success(and fun 😆) of the event! Kiewit will be hosting Pumpkinpalooza once again this year which is custom painted pumpkins by their employees and 100% of the profits get donated to Sunflower House which is truly fantastic and amazing of them to do!

Congratulations to the OG Bates City BBQ on 50 years! That means the Bates City BBQ locations have over 75 years of combined BBQing experience! 😆😎

Today we officially kick off 50 YEARS of Bates City BBQ! 🤎🎉

And honestly… we can hardly believe we’re here!

October is officially our 50th Anniversary Month, and we’re going to spend the entire month celebrating the people, stories and memories that have made Bates City BBQ what it is today.

Here’s a little of what you’ll see throughout October:

📖 Stories from the past — We’ll be sharing stories and memories from some of our longtime customers and friends who have been part of our journey through the years.

🔥 Frank’s Corner — We’ll be taking a look back at where it all began in 1976 and sharing pieces of Grandpa Frank’s story, the early days and the history of our family BBQ.

📝 The Memory Board — Stop in and share YOUR favorite Bates City BBQ memory! Maybe it’s your first visit, a family tradition, a favorite meal, a funny story or a special memory with someone you love. We want to hear them all! These memories will eventually become part of our permanent Memory Wall.

🎉 Fun & surprises all month long — We’ll have special celebrations, giveaways, fun activities and a few surprises along the way. So keep following along because you never know what might be happening at the Que!

❤️ Most importantly… YOU. — October is about celebrating the customers and community who have supported our family for 50 years. Some of you have been coming since you were kids and now bring your own children and grandchildren. You have watched our family grow, and in so many ways, you have become part of our family too.

We truly cannot say THANK YOU enough.

Back in October of 1976, Grandpa Frank and Grandma Janice came across a little BBQ joint and decided to take a chance. They purchased it, and what began as a small family business would eventually become 50 years of family, hard work, memories and generations.

We wish more than anything they could walk through those doors today and see what that little BBQ joint they took a chance on has become.

We know they would be so incredibly proud and so ecstatic to see where we are today. ❤️

50 years. Three generations. Thousands of memories. One story.

Today we begin celebrating that story — and we want YOU to be part of it.

Important update! We are working hard to do what is best for us moving forward heading into the future! We are excited about how our food presentation looks now with the aluminum trays(are we getting classy? 🤪)! Regarding the decision to no longer have TVs on in our restaurant it was more or less a failed experiment on our end that we started just before covid happened when we had extended hours. The goal was to be an option for when there were late games because our business was not very strong after 7pm. Fast forward to now and once a Chiefs game starts we will have maybe two tables of customers for the whole duration of the game(if we are lucky) which just doesn't move the needle. We know we aren't a sports bar, nor are we trying to be. We want to head in a direction that feels more true to who we are. Our plan now is to get more neon or LED signs hanging up and to even get a custom one ordered that will light up the atmosphere in a special way!

We love going to the movies up here at Shawnee's Bates City BBQ so we had AI make a movie poster for us... and it looks like a movie we might want to actually go and see! 😆😎

We had ourselves a good little day today! We helped with the Boards & Bags tournament fundraiser for Sunflower House and had our Jeep Night! The last Jeep Night before our grand finale Trunk or Treat Jeep Night! We can't wait to see you here! There will be raffles, silent auction items, Pumpkinpalooza, hopefully a bounce house of some kind will be there as well! Make it a part of your Halloween plans, from 4-7pm to be at Trunk or Treat Jeep Night fundraiser! 🎃

We're heading over to the Boards & Bags tournament fundraiser for Sunflower House at Knights Park and helping get it all set up! It starts at 11 and runs until 2 today! If you would like to come by and support them with some fun we'd love to see you there! Don't forget about Jeep Night at the BBQ starting at 4! 😜
