It’s with heavy hearts we share the news of Nancy Ridenour’s passing at the age of 96. “Nan” as many knew her, graduated from Hamilton High School and attended Miami University in Oxford where she met and fell in love with Mick. Together, they established and operated, along with her parents, The Root Beer Stand in Sharonville in 1957. Her daughter Sue shared, “One of her last thoughts were of making footlongs at The Stand.”

Have you ever wondered how the Timmy Dog got its name?
In the 1990s, Timmy Distler was a regular at The Stand and would always ask the waitress for the same thing: a footlong hot dog topped with every topping in the kitchen. The famous request quickly became known as the “Timmy Dog” because he was the only customer brave enough to order one. The Timmy Dog was officially added to the menu as a footlong hot dog topped with mustard, ketchup, chili, onion, hot sauce, relish, coleslaw, sauerkraut, and cheese. The Timmy Dog was originally added to the menu as a joke, but the joke’s on us, Timmy wasn’t the only one who loved the Timmy Dog!

It’s , and this week we are throwing it back to 1957!
The Root Beer Stand was founded in the heart of Sharonville, Ohio, by Mick and Nancy Ridenour, alongside Nancy’s parents, Jim and Catherine Clark. What started as a small stop along a busy travel route quickly became a local favorite. Families would pile into the car and head to The Stand for ice-cold mugs of root beer. Although we’ve made some changes since 1957, some things remain the same - including Catherine Clark’s homemade chili recipe, prepared fresh every day!
