In 2016, Gavin went to Japan as a WWOOFer and met a family in Fujieda City (Shizuoka prefecture) that was preparing for the fall harvest. He fell in love with the city, the process, and, of course, matcha. He worked with them for three years before coming back stateside to manage a tea farm in Salem, Oregon for the next six years.ย

Welcome to Vale Farms ๐Ÿƒ We just planted our first 12,000 tea plants on Whidbey Island. Itโ€™s the start of a new chapter for us, with plans to cultivate nearly one million tea plants and create a place for you to come experience and taste what we grow.

When we first opened our cafรฉ in Seattle, a global matcha shortage made it difficult to secure enough high-quality matcha to meet our needs. We went to Japan looking for exceptional matcha and came home with a much deeper appreciation for everything that happens before matcha ever reaches the cup.

With the help of our partners in Japan and Hawaiสปi, weโ€™re beginning a long-term journey to grow tea here in the Pacific Northwest.

We canโ€™t wait to have you for a visit!
