To our AMAZING regulars, patrons, fur-regulars and West Seattle,

In 2019 the new owner of the building, Shilling Family Holdings, expressed their desire to remodel the building to give us a better functioning workspace while retaining the character of the exterior of the building, as they have already provided for a few properties on Alki.  After their initial feasibility study, it became clear that demolishing the existing structure and starting fresh was going to be the best option.

October 30 is the last scheduled date for operations in the building. We will be consolidating our operations into the ‘Tacontainer’ that previously resided next to Ampersand over the last 2 years. Initially it will be located right in front of Ampersand and then will move around the property to accommodate construction.

We will be focusing mostly on coffee and our food menu will necessarily be smaller. We will no longer making things in-house and will be out sourcing products from local businesses.

This is a HUGE change, but one that we are, frankly, ready and thankful for. The charm of the building is irreplaceable, but it is also time for it to go, all things must pass, right? We are excited to be able to take a very deep breath with a smaller operation and looking forward to spending more time with our children and having a better life/work balance. Covid and post Covid, coinciding with supply chain issues, has been extraordinarily difficult and exhausting. We are grateful that we were able to survive, with the extreme generosity of our regulars (you know who you are!) and some incredible baristas.

Being able to reopen Ampersand in a larger, modern and more functional space will be wonderful.

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you all for your continued support over the last NINE YEARS!!

Meet our newest (and youngest) Fur-Regular, RAINBOW!

Rainbow is the sweetest 3 month old Bernese Mountain Dog. At three months, Rainbow has already trained her owner to stop by the cafe from across the street. She may be small but she sure has a mighty cry to let us know she’s waiting in line for belly rubs and a treat.

FYI- the cafe will always pause when Rainbow is in the house! 🌈 🐶

Our first Fur-regular shout outs begin with one our OG’s. One who has touch many hearts on Alki and at Ampersand but one who truly hits my heart.
Meet a legend, Brooklyn aka Cinnamon (by a few baristas 😂).

Over the years, Brooklyn stopped by every morning for a morning biscuit. One day as her owner, Sebastian started chatting and Brooklyn discovered where we stored the treats. She would graciously help herself to a few while Sebastian was distracted, having conversations with us. The baristas found so much laughter and joy that she just helped herself. Then we introduced her to a pup-puccino …
Brooklyn was known to grab her cup and carry it all the way home (a few blocks away) and enjoy it at her doorstep.
She was very special to all of us over the years. I’m sadden and filled with loss writing this. She was loved.

Her passing has inspired me in starting the fur-regular posts. These babes my not be our dogs be we want to share the love, happiness and relationships of your furry babes.

Brooklyn was a sweet, energetic, always down for a walk, happy and very loved dog. We miss this legend so much. 💖
