Our last “Ei Ei O!” before service. ❤️
On August 14, our second-to-last day, Katsuko-san joined our lineup to do “Ei Ei O!” with us one last time.
For the past seven years, Katsuko-san has been beside Sam, supporting him throughout every single day of this journey. Sam shared one small memory that says so much about that support: on many late nights when he came home from the restaurant, he would find dinner wrapped and waiting for him in the kitchen, and Katsuko-san would warm it up for him.
Through the long days, late nights, and everything that came with running 84 Yesler, she was always there supporting him behind the scenes.
Now, after all these years, they’re looking forward to slowing down, spending more time together, and finally being able to sit down and enjoy dinner together.
Then came August 15 — our final day of service.
During our final lineup, Sam left us with one message:
“It’s not the end today. It’s a beginning today.”
There were a lot of tears. It’s sad knowing we won’t stand together for another lineup or hear another “Ei Ei O!” before service.
But more than anything, we are grateful.
Thank you, Sam, for everything you built and everything you gave to this team. Every single person who has been part of 84 Yesler helped make it what it became.
To our chef, kitchen team, servers, bartenders, managers, and everyone who worked at 84 Yesler over the years, thank you. Whether you were here years ago or stayed with us until August 15, you are part of this story.
And to our guests, friends, neighbors, and everyone who supported us: thank you for joining us one last time.
After we announced our closure, our final two weeks filled almost immediately, with full waitlists as well. Seeing that love and support reminded us just how many memories were created here.
August 15, 2026 marked our final service, but as Sam said, it was also the beginning of a new future.
84 Yesler closed its doors surrounded by friends, our team, and so many happy memories.
