Cruzio Cafe 2 Year Anniversary
Our little Santa Cruz cafe inside of Cruzio on Cedar Street just hit the 2 year milestone! We hope you can celebrate with us this Wednesday August 5 from 1-5pm! We scheduled the party to be concurrent with farmer's market hours since so many of our regulars are already present. Join us for:

Although slightly hidden (as befits our name), we have become a fixture here for our growing base of regular customers. This is the place where you can find our signature made from scratch espresso bar drinks, fresh roasted organic coffee, and a menu of hand baked treats and breakfast food.
We have worked very hard to build our business here in Santa Cruz. The last 2 years have been challenging for small businesses downtown, but with the support of our host community at Cruzio and our amazing customers we have really established ourselves here. In case you needed a reminder, these are the things that really distinguish us from the very crowded coffee shop market in Downtown Santa Cruz:
All Coffee is always organic, 30% woman produced
All our menu items, from milks to house made syrups to food, are organic whenever possible. We use organic milk as a standard, without an up charge. Our pastries are house made with organic flour, butter, & eggs.

Coffee is the reason
All Hidden Fortress Coffee is organically grown. Small farm produced. Produced with the well being of the farmers and the earth in mind. And small batch roasted so it is very fresh. You would be hard pressed to find a better value for hand crafted clean air roasted coffee.
Like my dad, I have been a coffee fanatic since my youth. I tasted Melitta drip coffee in the 70's. As a starving student in the 80's I brewed my own whole bean drip by potful. In the 90's as I travelled, especially in Indonesia and Amsterdam, I learned a great appreciation for coffee that is roasted and brewed well.
In the year 2000 I discovered home roasting and I have roasted coffee almost daily ever since. Over 26 years I have developed my senses, learned the science, and honed my craft. It is the highest honor to bring coffee that is masterfully grown to its peak flavor in the roast chamber. Each great roast is a thrill to share with my customers. When there are failures, It is always an opportunity to learn more about this incredible craft.

Many of you know we have had some very serious financial challenges in the past few years. We very nearly had to close for good, due to the post Covid decline of business at our Hangar Way location. We never recovered from losses brought on by Covid and the changes it brought to our neighborhood. 4 years of losing money Watsonville took a serious financial toll and we are still paying off the debt created by those losses. Things are better than a year ago– we finally paid off our coffee trailer and most of the short term debt! But we still have a year to go to pay off the SBA loan we took out to build the now closed Watsonville cafe (ouch). We are getting through it because of the continued support and business we have at our farmer's markets, Santa Cruz Cafe, and mail orders.
