here Willard’s Far-Famed Chicken Steak Dinners opened in 1929, the Brown Derby Car Café became a signature restaurant in 1940s, Michael’s Restaurant was a local landmark from the 1960s to the early 1990s, and The Backyard, which was born there in its actual backyard, was opened in 2020. Our executive chef and our front leader have dedicated over two decades to serving this community, primarily based at this location. In the past, this establishment housed CP Bakeries from 1987 to 2009, Pho Basil Leaf Cuisine from 2009 to 2016, Beach Burgers and Brews from 2016 to 2019, then Kailua Hawaiian Grill and SB Chicken Co from 2019 to 2022. We appreciate their continuous improvements at this location which shaped it to its current condition. In August 2022, The Backyard found its home here after relocating from its Los Angeles backyard site. In November 2023, we introduced lalc Restaurant & Bar (The Backyard) to reflect our Los Angeles origins and local approaches. In November 2025, lalc Smoked BBQ & Seafood was born to reflect what the best food we are serving. At lalc Smoke BBQ & Seafood, we embrace traditional cooking concepts and methods, seamlessly integrating them with modern kitchen equipment, cutting-edge tools, and scientific industrial expertise. Then, we tailor our approach to align with local preferences, meticulously crafting each recipe and designing precise cooking procedures. This ensures that every dining experience with us is a delightful and consistent journey, leaving you enamored with our food each and every time. Here, at lalc Smoke BBQ & Seafood, whenever possible, we select ingredients that are organic, all-natural, and non-GMO, no added hormones, and no antibiotics. We also seek to utilize as few ingredients as possible to present food in its most natural form, and we house made almost everything we serve you.
