👋 Let’s talk about food safety!👋
We recently received an anonymous letter from someone in regards to why our kitchen crew doesn't wear gloves while cooking or baking. We know how much our community cares about health and hygiene, and we want to share with you how a commercial kitchen actually stays safe, compared to the myths and misinformation you see shared on the internet.

Many people are surprised to learn that gloves do not automatically mean clean. In fact, food safety experts and health departments often prefer bare-hand cooking because gloves can trap moisture (creating a breeding ground for bacteria) and give a false sense of security. A person wearing gloves is much less likely to notice when their hands are dirty, leading to cross-contamination between tasks.

Instead of relying on single-use gloves (which also creates a lot of waste), our kitchen practices rigorous, continuous handwashing and uses specialized tools like tongs and spatulas when called for. Skin is also naturally sensitive; our chefs can instantly feel if they've touched something and they can feel it better compared to gloves, and then they head straight back to the sink to wash.

We hold ourselves to the highest safety standards to keep your food delicious and completely safe. We hope this information helps you understand a bit more about our best practices at The Celtic Tea Shoppe.

We're just days away from the Lord of the Rings Afternoon Tea event! We still have two seats left for the 3 pm, and 10 seats (a table for six if you want!) for the 12:30. Kim Silverman as Merloch the wizard will be doing closeup magic, and you will be serenaded by the acoustic trio of Avalon Rising. Book today!
