Tea & Ceramics of exceptional quality and character. We source rare tea and handcrafted ceramics of exceptional quality and character. Come visit us.

We work directly with producers. Each year, we assemble a collection of traditional, rare and experimental tea from China and Taiwan. We look for skillfully crafted leaves from clean growing regions – teas with structure, texture, and complexity. More importantly, every tea in the collection needs to be delicious. Our ceramics come from Taiwan, China and the United States. We collaborate directly with artists, looking for pieces that show mastery of material and technique, and that echo our aesthetic. Each piece is beautiful to look at and wonderful to use. And we placed it all in a beautiful tasting room and gallery in San Francisco, California.

Song Red was absent from last year’s collection (yo-yoing import tariffs made including our favorite Chinese teas rather unpredictable). So many of you reached out begging for its return, and your calls and email have finally been answered. Song Red is back!

This tea is a bit of an outlier in our collection - it’s the only tea we carry that’s made of a blend of cultivars: a sweet cai cha plus four oolongs- jin mudan (gold peony), huang guanyin (yellow goddess of mercy), jin guanyin (gold goddess of mercy), and meizhan - all grown together in the hills of Fujian.
Together they paint a picture of a spectacularly diverse garden’s depth and diversity, in a way that no single cultivar could capture on its own. It’s this sort of storytelling- a cup of tea that speaks of terroir, time, and touch- that we love at Song.

It’s the final day of our once-a-year sale, and you may have already stocked up on tea. But did you see? We very quietly added some new teaware to the shelves, including these woodfired bowls from Taiwanese potter, Zhang Hao Yan. The sale ends at midnight tonight (Sunday, October 4). Might we suggest taking one last look through the site to see if there’s anything you missed? 😉

It’s our 13th birthday, and we’re in the mood to celebrate- and to look back on some highlights from years past. So many things have happened since we started this little tea shop back in 2013. Little did we know that this was just the beginning of so many great things to come! 😍

2014 - Peter begins documenting his sourcing trips, with farm visits scheduled to coincide with lunch. He sends the team pictures of pretty much every meal. Cue the jealousy! 🤤

2015 - Buddha’s Hand, a perennial Song favorite, makes its debut! 🌱

2016 - Tinkering Monkey makes our now iconic sidewalk sign, welcoming passers by into the studio, Mr. and Mrs. Chen’s teas join the collection, and our team keeps growing. 💚

2017 - Our little roaster joins the team, turning maocha into something even more extraordinary! 🫖

2018 - We introduce the boxes collection, Tea by Character, highlighting the varied flavors of Song teas into categories like sugar, fruit, and earth. While we don’t carry these any longer, you can still filter our teas by these categories online to find just the flavors you’re looking for. 🍬

2019 - The Founder’s Collection debuts, we begin research on our Song Gaiwans in Jingdezhen, and Mama Song paints us new years banners to hang in the shop. ❤️

020 - Lots of tea drinking at home this year. What a trip to think back on these times! 😷

2021 - Our annual Lunar New Years series debuts. It’s pretty dang cute. 🐮

2022 - Our shelves get a little makeover, and for the tea curious, we introduce sample size packs of all our tea. 💌

2023 - Quiet Mornings tea tastings debut, Song turns 10, and we take our first ever sourcing trip together as a team. It’s the best, clearly! 🥹

2024 - We start celebrating the Mid-Autumn festival with a bespoke Eight Treasures, now in its 3rd year. 🐇

2025 - Our tea tasting events just keep on expanding, with Matcha Hour and more. 🍵

The Song Gaiwans are here! Our bespoke porcelain gaiwans are the results of years of tea drinking experience, design decisions, and patience with the art of handcrafted goods. We set out to make a gaiwan that is approachable for the beginning tea drinker and equally aesthetically alluring to the experienced tea appreciated; a form both simple and sophisticated. The result, we hope you agree, is just right.

Eight Treasures Tea 🌕🐇🥮 A limited set available now to pair with your mooncake for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

Ba Bao Cha is often considered a welcome drink, served to visitors as a gesture of hospitality and friendship. It’s this tradition that inspires our annual Eight Treasures release to coincide with the Mid-Autumn Festival, where friends and neighbors gather together to watch the harvest moon rise in full.

Our Eight Treasures is blended in-house from a mix of Longan, Astragalus, Goji Berry, Tangerine, Red Date, Red and Golden Osmanthus, Monkfruit, and Rose Petals. Traditionally prepared in a large gaiwan, Eight Treasures is meant to be brewed multiple times, and is particularly delicious steeped hot, then cooled overnight in the fridge.

Each box set contains 4 single use portions of Eight Treasures.

When we first came across Yin Long, aka Silver Dragon, the fit didn’t feel right with our red tea collection. Our reds skew bright and bold, and the subtle, smoothness of Yin Long felt at odds with the rest. But like many great works of art, the right piece at the right time (say, Catcher in the Rye read at 15 versus adulthood - never bad, but at that precise moment, perfect!) is worth waiting for. The smooth, enveloping comfort of Yin Long is just the right balance for our collection today.

The appeal of Silver Dragon can be traced directly to the leaves. Thick and even, they provide an ideal canvas for balanced oxidation, pushed until the floral aromatics of honeysuckle and sweet osmanthus fill the withering room. Gently roasted then twisted, the leaves never succumb to bitterness, holding their own even after a day spent floating at the bottom of a tea bowl. It’s a soft, gentle tea, with a warm body and lingering, rose scented finish.

It’s been a busy summer here at the Song studio! There’s never a bad time to brew tea, but these dog days of summer have been inspiring us to start our mornings with bright green teas (the full 2026-27 season of green teas has been released!), and serve winter picked oolongs like Lishan and Shan Lin Xi over ice.

As fall approaches, some of our more recent arrivals are vying for attention: the Buddha’s Hand Redux - notes of dark chocolate, boba, and malted barley - and our traditional Meizhan Yancha - notes of root b**r, goat milk caramel, and membrillo - are back in stock, joined by the newest member of the Song Collection, Tippy Wild Tree Yunnan Red.

These latter leaves come from the same forest as our Wild Tree Yunnan Red and Wild Tree Yunnan White, and are crafted exclusively from bud tips, giving the tea a bright juicy profile with notes of mulberry, cane juice, and fruit punch.

The flavors of recent releases seem to mirror the shortening of the days, a pairing for seasonality and shifting light. With the equinox just a week away, the call of autumn grows ever louder. May 8th Gold, Amber, and Dark. Three teas, same harvest date, different roasts and crafting styles.

As our knowledge of cultivation and craft grows, so does our ability to play with each step, dialing a tea's final character specifically to our liking. Our May 8th oolongs are part of our flagship series where Song had a direct hand on the production of these teas, from field to finish.

On the eve of our May 8 oolong release (coming this Friday 7/17!), we’d like to share a bit of background on how Song’s flagship oolongs were conceived.

From the very first tea harvested April 30, 2023, and the following year’s April 28, to 2025's April 27 oolongs, each tea in this series has allowed us to become more involved in tea craftsmanship from field to finish.
