We offer a fine selection of charcuterie, artisanal cheeses and breads baked in-house. Our eclectic selection of beers and a thoughtful wine list are designed to suit a variety of preferences, of both taste and budget. We focus on quality over quantity. Foodie and aspiring blogger Mink Paree and her husband Earl recently celebrated their wedding anniversary at Bliss and shared these photos along with the sweet caption, “1️⃣2️⃣ years, countless memories, and one unforgettable dinner .”

“We had an amazing dinner and the service was also great,” Mink said of the celebration — which included our braised and charred Spanish octopus, seared duck breast and foie gras, braised beef short ribs, butter cake with strawberry raspberry compote, and miso chocolate brownie with banana brown-sugar ice cream.

“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”

That beloved quote is commonly attributed to Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz — and sometimes accompanied by an illustration of Charlie Brown, Linus, Snoopy and Woodstock sharing a plate of chocolate-chip cookies.

While the internet is divided about the quote’s provenance, there hasn’t been much debate about our decadent new chocolate dessert — a gluten-free fudge brownie surrounded by miso-infused caramel and topped with banana brown-sugar ice cream, dark chocolate crémeux, torched Italian meringue and a delicate sesame tuile.

It’s a quick crowd-pleaser — and brings to mind yet another popular quote of unknown origin: “Chocolate is the answer. Who cares what the question is.” ♥️🍫

What a fun night celebrating with Bruce Auden and other esteemed San Antonio chefs at “25 Years of B**a,” a collaborative fundraiser that united B**a alums and friends for a lovely evening featuring chef stations, cocktails and a silent auction. Benefiting culinary training programs at St. Philip’s College and the San Antonio Food Bank, the event also brought aspiring chefs into the fold — including Rossel, a St. Philip’s student who assisted Bliss proprietor (and B**a alum) Mark Bliss with a pork belly pastrami dish.

As San Antonio Express-News food critic Mike Sutter has pointed out, “The menu of fried oyster sliders, seared scallops and duck with foie gras hasn’t changed much since Bliss opened in 2012. And that’s just fine with me.”

We’re incredibly grateful that many of our regulars feel the same way. And while certain Bliss classics remain steadfast, we’re excited to introduce a refreshed version of our dinner menu — just as San Antonio prepares to celebrate Fiesta.

Although born in London, James Beard Award-nominated chef Bruce Auden has made deep impressions on San Antonio’s culinary scene that span from his early days at the helm of Polo’s at the Fairmount to his enduring run at B**a on the Banks — which is widely considered among the premiere fine-dining establishments on the San Antonio River Walk. Named after a centuries-old starter used in artisanal bread-making, Auden’s pioneering New American gem B**a has also functioned as a starter for many of the city’s finest culinary talents. In celebration of a quarter century on the River Walk, the upcoming “25 Years of B**a Benefit” (6:30 p.m Tuesday, April 22) unites an array of B**a alums — including Bliss founder Mark Bliss — for a collaborative fundraiser featuring chef stations, a silent auction, cocktails and dancing. First introduced in 1950 at Giuseppe Cipriani’s legendary Venetian restaurant Harry’s Bar, beef carpaccio takes its name from Vittore Carpaccio — an Italian Renaissance painter who favored deep reds in his canvases. A recent arrival on our dinner menu, Bliss Executive Chef Tony Hernandez’s painterly take on the classic features thinly sliced beef tenderloin, crispy shallots, black sesame parmesan tuiles, capers, red pepper and citrus horseradish cream.

Fun fact: In addition to inventing beef carpaccio — specifically for Countess Amalia Nani Mocenigo — Giuseppe Cipriani (1900-1980) is the creator of another Italian classic: the Bellini.

Thirteen years ago today, Bliss opened its doors in a 1930s-era Humble filling station in the heart of Southtown. Despite the unlucky connotations of our anniversary number, we still feel incredibly lucky this year. Lucky for our invaluable team members — several of whom have been with us all 13 years! And lucky for the many friends and supporters — old and new — who have helped us build a community around Bliss.

A San Antonio native who grew up in Atlanta, Fernandez joined the Bliss team on day one back in February of 2012 and has filled in as Maître d’Hôtel on a number of occasions — making her an ideal fit for the job. In her new role, Fernandez will be tag teaming with fellow front of house co-manager Mary Swiger and serving during dinner service every other week. 👏👏👏
