The Cake That Started It All 🎂❤️
Making a birthday cake for work had me thinking… why not make the cake that started it all? 🥹🎂
I hadn’t made this particular cake in over 10 years, and let me tell you… making it again opened the floodgates of memories. ❤️
People often ask, “How did you get started making cakes?”

When my girls were little, I proudly made their birthday cakes. And when I look at those pictures now… I just giggle. 😂 The cakes were a little lopsided, the decorations had a tendency to slide, and recipes werent the greatest. But every single one was made with A LOT of love. ❤️
Like so many families, we hit some hard times. It was summer break, funds were tight, but I still wanted my girls to have some fun.
So… we baked. 🧁🍌
We lived in El Paso and my two youngest girls and I went house to house selling cupcakes and banana loaf cakes, and we used what we made to create our own little adventures.
A $5 pizza eaten at the mountain? Absolutely. 🍕⛰️
Western Playland 🎢 or Wet n Wild with those free radio-station tickets? You bet! 💦
Two $1 movies? Fancy night out. 🎬😂
Or a trip to Barnes & Noble to share a drink and sandwich at Starbucks? ☕️📚
We didn't have much, but we had each other… and somehow, a few cupcakes could turn into a pretty great day. ❤️
I never had formal cake-decorating training. I just realized I really, really liked making cakes. So I started watching YouTube videos, practicing, learning, messing up, trying again… and taking orders from friends and family.
And to every person who trusted me with those early cakes—thank you. You probably had no idea how much your faith in me meant. ❤️
Slowly, my little circle grew. And here we are, years later. 🥹
My skills have grown. My kitchen has grown. My confidence has grown. But what I love most is that my kitchen went from making cupcakes because we needed a little extra money… to making custom cakes simply because I love it. 🎂❤️ Trust me there were many tears along my learning journey.
I am so incredibly blessed! To everyone who has come back to me for birthday cakes, wedding cakes, baby celebrations, quinceañeras, milestones, “just because” cakes, and everything in between—thank you. You have no idea what it means to me that you continue to choose I’ve Got The Cake. ❤️
And maybe that's the biggest lesson in all of this:
Support a small business. ❤️
You never know what story is behind the person taking the chance, starting from their kitchen, trying to make something work, and turning a little bit of hope into a dream.
