Hot, new Puerto Rican food will be in the house tomorrow, Saturday, June 13! We're open at 8am as usual but their food will start at 11am.

Mother-and-son team Nydia Peña and Estevan Reyes Peña left their careers in corporate tech to pursue a shared passion: bringing authentic Puerto Rican food and culture to Utah. Bringing generations of family recipes from Puerto Rico to Utah, they created Borikén Sol to share authentic flavors, culture, and the stories behind the food they love.

We have not one but TWO pop-ups this weekend! Better yet, it's two new folks! Come get some Vietnamese food this Sunday, June 14 from 11am - 3pm (or sell out).

I met Chef Andy through the cafe and found out he makes amazing food. I loved seeing his fresh take on some classic dishes that I grew up eating.

So what does "ăn đi" mean? It's "eat up" in Vietnamese. It's also a clever play on Chef Andy's name and what his mom called him growing up.

He learned how to cook to fit in. His mom, a Vietnamese refugee, was not the best at making American food and in order to find common ground with his classmates, he learned to cook. Over the past several years, he has cooked for private events, dinner parties, and restaurants. He invites you to his table to explore approachable Vietnamese food.

Happy Pride month! 🌈 We're celebrating all month long with fun specials like this lavender cupcake with a honey butter frosting. This cutie is dairy and egg free.

But real talk. If you've been in the cafe, you know that we are an inclusive space. We love and celebrate our LGBTQIA+ babes year-round. This is just an excuse to make extra cute things!

Since the rest of this month is so busy, I made a list of events so you can keep up!

🍔 Friday, April 17 (today): Drinks by Picnic and food from Thank You For The Short Notice from 6pm - 9pm. Word is, he's making soup! We have some Picnic POG: pineapple, orange guava juice with passionfruit popping boba and a little bit of sparkling water. If you're feeling spicy, you can get it with sparkling wine instead!

🌯 Saturday, April 18: Hector's Mexican Food is back, baby! The menu is a little different from last time so hopefully things will move a bit faster. If you show up and just want Picnic things, we'll take care of you so you don't have to wait in line as long. That also means if you want a drink while you're waiting for Hector's, we've got you too. Pop-up starts at 11am!

🍳 Sunday, April 19: Our summer resident chef, Proyecto Xilonen, is here every other weekend with some of the best food you can get in Salt Lake. No lie. I can't wait until their garden is in full swing with cool produce. Brunch starts at 11am.

🍕 Saturday, April 25: We're having another pizza party! Priscilla's Pizza will be doing his thing, making delightful pizzas and being a sweetie. You better hope he brings that ranch again AND you don't forget to order it. 11am or bust.

🧶 Thursday, April 30: Last but not least, Art Jam! If you haven't come before, it's just a super chill evening where we open our doors and you can come hang out. Bring an art project that you're working on, have some quiet time or meet new friends. We have the nicest folks come so don't be afraid to come alone. You don't even have to bring something to work on. Come grab something tasty any time between 5:30pm - 8:30pm.

✨ As always, we have our full espresso bar available as well as snacks, beer, wine, cider and other NA drinks. Come say hey!

Somehow it's already the end of March. WHAT. That means Art Jam is happening tomorrow, Thursday, March 26 from 5:30pm - 8:30pm.

As always, it's open to the public so come hang out! Feel free to bring whatever you're working on like: beading, crochet, junk journaling, polymer clay magnets, or doodling on your iPad. Or you can just swing by and grab a treat, coffee, beer, cider or wine. Try one of our new spring things or a tried and true.

Other things happening this week? Burgers with Thank You For the Short Notice on Friday from 6 - 9pm and pizza with Priscilla's Pizza on Saturday starting at 11am.

Spring is here! That also means NEW MENU TIME. Some old favorites are back like the strawberry coconut scone and orange blossom honey latte, but we also came up with new goodies, like a banana oat streusel cake and blueberry almond latte. Have you eaten yet?

Don't worry, the banana cream pie latte is back for all of you banana fiends. We said it was going away but there were a lot of sad faces and we just couldn't disappoint you. Come enjoy the sunshine and see what we've got.

There's still a little bit of winter drinks left so if the coquito, halva, five spice mocha or ube cream is your jam, you know what to do. Oh yeah, pandan cream for the Vietnamese coffee is baaaack.

It's our birthday today! We made it to FOUR. Can you believe? As every small business knows, it's rough out there so I'm proud that we made it this far. There's no way I could have done this without my staff or without all of YOU.

Thank you for showing up, supporting us, boosting us online and loving us. We're so lucky to have so many amazing regulars who have become friends.

To the staff, thank you all that you do for Picnic, for me, for each other and for creating a space that feels so good that people want to come back.

This past year has been so hard, in so many ways. Big changes happened so we've had to adjust and grow within ourselves. I'm excited for the future and what's in store. I hope you'll come along. It's been so rewarding to bring more of my food and culture into the space. Food is an act of love so have you eaten yet?
