Lorenza Rosé & Hot Dog Pop-up
Thursday, June 11
5pm to 7pm

Join us for a special evening with Melinda Kearney, co-founder and winemaker (https://lorenzawine.com/pages/our-story) of Lorenza Wine. We’ll be sipping her fresh, bright, beautiful rosé alongside the season’s first Gourmet Hot Dog Pop-up. 🌭🍷
Beer-Braised Onions and Grainy Mustard topping!

Now to the Coin Flip
Sometimes a flip of the coin can change everything (or not). Last night, I was on the "tail" end of decision for the open District Four Council seat.

What an experience.
27 applicants.
20 presentations.
2 finalists, which included myself.
One "heads-up" winner decide by a f'ing coin flip, which wasn't me.
Congrats to Jennifer Napier-Pearce!

My presentation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npUPFIimiAg&t=14626s) (fast forward to 3:59:22) focused on what we do here at Tea Zaanti; building communi-TEA connections and creating opportunities for engagement outside of formal meetings and public comment. Thanks for all the encouragement and support!

More of this Please!

Salt Lake is experiencing an absolutely incredible start to June and it looks like more amazing weather is on the way. If you're anything like me, this weather is extremely distracting - I just want to be outside running and walking the dogs. Well, not really, I really just like being outside drinking wine and hanging with friends!!!!

Thank goodness 1100 East has SLC's best gathering space with a new pergola - ideal for doing just that.

Invite your friends to join you at Tea Zaanti!

Upcoming Happenings
Saturday & Sunday closing at 5pm to allow our team to Celebrate Utah Pride (https://utahpride.org/)

Thursday, June 11 - Hot Dogs & Meet the Winemaker - Lorenza Rosé
From 5pm to 7pm; Melinda Kearney, co-founder and winemaker from Lorenza Wines, will be joining us on the patio to sip her fresh, beautiful rosé!
As a special bonus we will be bringing back Hot Dog night! Note: not every Thursday, YET!

Stay tuned for the gourmet Hot Dog topping! Gotta keep you interested in my content somehow...

Before we get into "the thing"

Let's get excited to welcome beautiful weather with our weekend special sandwich: Open-Faced Caprese! (https://www.instagram.com/p/DY7swSfGeRP/?img_index=1)

Now "the Thing"
This morning, I submitted my application for the open District Four City Council Member seat. The process is straightforward;1) Submit Letter of Interest (https://www.teazaanti.com/blog) 2)Submit a conflict of interest form, 3) Submit written responses to the application questions 3) Wait! 4) Potential presentation to the current City Council members, who will make the final decision on June 9.

Outside of the broader challenges facing both the City and State, including affordable housing, water usage, and air quality, below are the issues that stand out to me.

Issues that I'm passionate about:

Ensuring Salt Lake City remains a place where younger residents can realistically build a future.

Creating active, connected neighborhoods throughout District Four and the City.

Supporting local small businesses that create energy, identity, and community within our neighborhoods.

I’ve spent the past several weeks meeting with current Council Members, community leaders, business owners, and neighborhood stakeholders to better understand the responsibilities of the role and the challenges and opportunities facing District 4 and Salt Lake City as a whole.

Regardless of the outcome, it has been an incredibly interesting and rewarding process which has given me an even deeper appreciation for the work happening throughout the city.

Thank you to everyone who has offered advice, encouragement, feedback, and support throughout the process.

If you feel that I'd represent District Four and Salt Lake City well, please consider submitting a letter of recommendation to [email protected]

Now, go enjoy the weekend (maybe on a lovely patio in Sugar House).

laughing while typing this...

When’s the last time you threw a little shade?

Football fans wearing helmets to the game.
Golf fans wearing spikes to the PGA Championship.
The way I ask questions in these emails and get nothing but silence back. Really keeps me grounded.

But THAT’S not the kind of shade we’re talking about.

We finally installed a beautiful new shade structure on the patio. Think more comfort, more lingering, more “one more glass” vibes. You should probably come see it for yourself this weekend.

Weekend Pour
$9 glass / $44 bottle

Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Blanc
Imported by Kermit Lynch

Think sun-kissed peaches and cleansing rainwater (description borrowed from their website). The kind of wine that tastes even better on a shady patio in Sugar House.

Happenings this Weekend!
Friday: Sugar House Art Walk (https://www.instagram.com/p/DYC-bKLkph9/) - swing by and enjoy some time on our patio while celebrating local artists
Sunday (Mother's Day): Tea & Tacos Pop-up: Austin-inspired breakfast tacos, made fresh all morning: 9am - 1pm(while they last). A couple weeks ago Becky and I were in Austin, TX and I discovered the simple and amazing breakfast taco scene they've got going on. And apparently bon appétit (https://www.bonappetit.com/story/best-breakfast-taco-in-austin?srsltid=AfmBOooNjFRrMZgYRbUT8w7yvEc3kdloVKRojYXGK1FNyz9ptfXhBqUl) noticed it in 2018. Like I always say, it takes 7 to 8yrs for trends to hit Salt Lake City!!!
Becky and I will be on the grill!

Sad Farewell!
Our amazing neighbor and friend Commerce & Craft will be closing their location at 1950 1100 E this weekend. Gail will be moving her incredibily curated collection to The Neighborhood Hive. We wish Commerce & Craft the very best in the new location, but we are extremely sad to see Gail and Commerce & Craft leave our block. Come by and shop this weekend!

See what I did there!

I combined the Utah Mammoth’s first home playoff game with the Salt Lake City Marathon happening the same weekend. Marketing genius, some might say.

Needless to say, we’re excited about both (even if neither event exactly helps us here at the shop). Tea Zaanti won’t be hosting a Mammoth watch party, and the marathon’s street disruptions tend to hit our morning business. Still, it’s a great weekend for our city, and we’re here for it.

For those brave souls running tomorrow morning: finish strong, then come celebrate with us. Wear your medal into the shop on Saturday and get 15% off any food item.

And one more thing — mark your calendars:

Sunday, May 10
Tacos ‘n’ Tea
Austin-inspired breakfast tacos + Mother’s Day.

How do you relax?

I love the notion of grabbing a book, heading to my favorite "living room" cafe and reading for a couple of hours. Everyone needs a place that isn’t home or work to escape to during the day. Ideally, that place has an amazing selection of tea and snacks. Ideally, that place looks a lot like Tea Zaanti.

In reality, I'm horrible at relaxing. I'll grab a book, open it and start thinking about two million other things. I'll check my phone 47 times, and I'll text Becky, "what's our dinner plan?" Not exactly the peaceful café experience I’m always talking about. Which is ironic, since Tea Zaanti was designed to be a cozy, relaxing escape. I hope you’re better at it than I am. Apparently, my version of relaxing is creating and letting my mind wander. Consider this your invitation to come in and relax this weekend, coupon below.

How do you start your morning?

Experts say black coffee is more acidic than tea, so it can stimulate gastric acid production and may therefore cause irritation for some people with sensitive stomachs.
