Hi all –
We wanted to give you more information regarding the posts on Facebook and other social media outlets that many of you have seen regarding Salem B**r Works.
As noted in our earlier Facebook post and a note we posted at SBW, we are just not sure at this time when or if we will be re-opening. We had planned to re-open in mid-June when patio dining was allowed and even expanding into the adjacent parking area. We have been unable to work out lease specifics with the new landlord (a company that took over the building the 1st week of March right before the emergency hit).
Salem B**r Works opened in 1996 long before Salem exploded as a residential, tourist and drinking/dining/social gathering community. We love being in Salem and would love to be here for another 25 years. We’ve been able to survive economic downturns, terrorist events and other ups and downs. That being said the current public health emergency and what will be a very slow recovery threatens not just B**r Works but almost every operator - no indoor dining for now and then restrictions, no large public gatherings, no tourism, limited colleges/universities. We are not crying in our b**r here, just being realistic that it really will take working together to get through the next 6 to 18 months. We can’t do that without cooperation from our various landlords. We have been working on that, but as of now haven’t been able to reach an agreement that works for everyone.
We greatly appreciate the positive posts and memories from guests, current employees and former employees. We even got a chuckle or two from former employees who are taking their chance to throw some shade on our difficulties. We will post an update to all when we have a better idea of whether we will reopen or whether we are going to turn off the taps.
Stay safe, and please support the local restaurants and brewers.
