Sara's Ice Cream

Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Ste. Also serving a craft coffees! Sara's Ice Cream was founded in 1981 by Sara Menard.

Genevieve, take a step back in time at Sara's Ice Cream, a vintage gem specializing in nostalgic favorites - featuring hand-dipped ice cream in all the best ways! The day she opened the shop was unnaturally cold day in May that kept most everyone from venturing out. Fortunately, a few Girl Scouts stopped in for ice cream, and by the end of the first day, the shop had made a total of $13.39 in sale

s. Sara owned and operated the shop for 44 years before deciding in late 2024 that it was time to sell. Michael and Rebecca Monia purchased the building in December 2024 and after renovations, they held a grand re-opening on May 3, 2025. They maintained the original name "Sara's Ice Cream" because of the shop's legacy in the town and to honor its original founder, but they've made some changes - including partnering with an ice cream company out of Michigan (Ashby's) known for its premium ice cream (not available on line or in stores - you have to come to a shop like this to get it!) and they make their own waffle cones and bowls fresh daily along with made from scratch brownies (for brownie sundaes or brownie topping) and sea salt chocolate chip cookies they use in making ice cream sandwiches. They've also added a craft coffee menu, with an organic focus to the offerings. What was it before it was an ice cream shop? The building was originally Ted Meyer's Shoe Store which provided the local Mississippi Lime Company workers with boots and work wear. Now, the shop provides locals and tourists with a refreshing treat during the summer. When you stop in, ask the workers about the soda fountain. It is a 1930s Bastian-Blessing fountain from the Old Orchard Drug Store in Webster, Missouri.

What a weekend! 🍦✨

Our hearts are incredibly full looking back at the last few days. It was a beautiful whirlwind of catching up with familiar faces we haven’t seen since last year—in town for the French Heritage Festival and the Jeep/UTV event—and welcoming so many wonderful new and old friends into our shop.

But the absolute cherry on top of the weekend? We got to witness a real-life love story unfold! Right outside our front doors, a beautiful marriage proposal took place. 💕

We’d like to think our ice cream helped seal the deal! 😉 They were sweet enough to let us capture this photo of the magic moment just after she said YES!

Thank you to everyone who spent a part of their weekend with us. Whether you were here for the festivals, the rides, or a scoop of your favorite flavor, you made this weekend one we won’t ever forget.

🎉 Big Milestones & A Mini-Break! 🍦

We have some incredibly special reasons to celebrate, and we want to share the joy with all of you. This year, we are hitting two massive family milestones at the exact same time: Lydia is turning 21, and Michael is hitting the big 5-0! 🎂🥳

To give our family the chance to celebrate, laugh, and make memories together, we will be CLOSED on Friday, July 3rd, and Saturday, July 4th. But don't worry, we would never leave you stranded without your favorite treats for the holiday weekend! 🎆

It’s June! ☀️ And you know what that means... school is out, summer is in full gear, and the ice cream scoops are stacking up!

We are dropping delicious new ice cream flavors inspired by the season. Stay tuned... they hit the menu tomorrow (FRIDAY, 6/5) and are only available this month! ANY GUESSES on the flavors??

This weekend only, we are bringing back chocolate waffle cones for the first time since last summer! Come grab one before they're gone. (And yes, our classic regular waffle cones are still available too!)

This past weekend completely filled our hearts! We loved welcoming new faces, hugging old friends, and honoring our brave veterans and active military heroes. You know what makes Sara’s Ice Cream truly magical? It is the beautiful kindness of our community. Our sweet patrons are always looking for ways to love on us—whether it is bringing us delicious treats, straightening up napkins, or even jumping in to wash dishes! We are endlessly blessed and truly have the absolute BEST customers in the world!

It’s been a very busy week at Sara’s Ice Cream and it's not over yet!! To all the Ste. Gen and Valle classes and sports teams who visited, to every parent and student who came and waited in longer than usual lines, so very patiently, to get a scoop or two of ice cream, and for every other local and out of town guest who visited OR came back later when the lines died down- WE APPRECIATE YOU! Thank you for making us a part of your day- we value you and we will always strive to serve you with our very best every day.
